LTA performance coach Nigel Sears gives his view on final qualies round action in the Nottingham 25K:
Amanda Elliott (GB) bt Alice Balducci (Ita)(7) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2: "A good result for Amanda, she's been out for a while recently so good to see her returning to the form she was showing earlier in the year. Amanda also beat Balducci on the way to her first 10K final in Bournemouth. It was quite a struggle today, she did well to keep her head and her nerve. She served really well in the decider which was key, went for some brave shots and was very positive when it mattered."
Anna Smith (GB)(3) bt Brittany Augustine (USA) 6-3, 6-4: "Straightforward win for Anna who's been in good form recently, making final last week. Courts suit her game so she'll be looking to cause some upsets this week."
Louise Doutrelant (Fra)(12) bt Anastasia Nebojanko (GB) 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(2): "Really felt for Nebojanko who actually served for the match at 5-4 in the 3rd but just wobbled when it mattered and went on to lose the tiebreak. It was a shame as making a 25K main draw would have been massive for her but it was tough as she had to play 2 matches in one day. She was really impressive in knocking out the 4th seed Frankova (ranked 504) 4&1 earlier. Anastasia is solid, has a really good backhand especially down the line, moves well . She competed really well today and is improving fast."
Nadege Vergos (Fra)(5) bt Jenny Ren (GB) 6-3, 7-6: "Really impressed with Jenny Ren who got off to a horrible start, was 5-0 down in the 1st and pulled it back to 5-3 before losing it. She was 3-1 down in the 2nd but battled really well, attacking much better and got it back to 4-4 where she had 0-40 on Vergos' serve but wasn't able to convert. In the end she just didn't finish quite well enough. If she'd won that set, would have rated her chances in the decider as Vergos looked tired. Still a great performance for a 14 year old to nearly make a 25K main draw. She's grown quite a lot recently and has a good serve but the big weapon is her backhand."
"Georgie Stoop is recovered from the stress fracture she had earlier in the year but is waiting till she's been out of the game for 6 months so she can take advantage of her protected ranking. She'll return in Jersey."

Shame about Amanda E, thought she had a good chance there....worrying stuff with mel South if u retire at 4-3 up in the 3rd it must be quite serious
