Week 39 - Futures F18 (M) - Nottingham 2, Great Britain

Tournament Key : M-FU-GBR-18A-2007
Dates : 24 Sep to 30 Sep 2007
Venue : Nottingham 2, Great Britain
Surface : Hard

The 2nd of the Nottingham Futures sees Jamie Baker and Richard Bloomfield as No 1 and 2 seeds.

Also in the MD will be Josh Goodall, Kasiri, Slabinsky, Rushby, Seator, Flanagan and possibly Irwin dpending on SE spots etc...

The usual suspects in the qualy list include Sagoo, Evans, Cox, Rice, Milton, Bamford, Miotto & Brewer.

We are on the distribution list so will get the MD WC's and Qualy draw Saturday sometime.

Even if Cox was to win F17 then it is unlikely his increase in ranking would get him in direct via an SE. So he should get another WC IMO.

Cox, Evans and Skupski have done enough this week to deserve another WC (Cox and Skupski in the QF's, Evans taking a top 350 player to a 3rd set TB), although I wouldn't be surprised if Evans doesn't get one

The 4th should go to Bamford, as he has had some good results over the last month or so, and is the player most likely to win a match, as the event is going to be very strong. One of the juniors could get one, but may not be so worthwhile as they would be unlikely to win a match unless they got a good draw

Evo will almost surely get one. This is in Nottingham...

I agree with the first three choices, but won't give one to Bam. When you're past 23 or 24, you shouldn't be getting wild cards into Futures unless you improve very rapidly or something. I'd much rather see Willis/Pauffley or some other young player getting one - even Marsalek or Carpenter would do. Richardson wouldn't be bad a idea either because he came extremely close to getting a point this week.

Bamford's going to qualify as it is and even if the younger players get thrashed, it'll help them a lot in the long run. Just look at how Josh Milton got thumped when he got a wild card earlier, but he has learnt from that experience and now he's good enough to win a round at Futures every now and then. Evo lost in the first round of his first six Futures, mind it, but the experience surely made him a far better player than he was before.

Why does the tournament being in Nottingham mean Evo will get a WC?

I agree that Cox, Evans and Skupski all deserve wildcards.

I think I would give the final one to Ben Pritchard, he's consistently qualifying for futures now and deserves a little help to get him that elusive rd1 win.

Both Evo and Skupski are in qualies. Preposterous. furious.gif

Most probably it'll be Evo vs. Jaggy S in round two. cry.gif

That qualies draw is ridiculously strong. Both Niland and King-Turner forgot to sign up/didn't sign up purposely and are in qualies. That means guys like Sagoo miss out on a seeding even though they are ranked.

All the seeds in the main draw will be ranked inside the top 400.

I think we can assume that Cox has one of the WC's.... but who the hell has the other 3, as everyone who crossed me mind happens to be in the Q draw

And no better chance to qualify for a futures main draw than by playing fellow unranked Brit Harry Skinner.

guaranteed 5 qualifiers with a possible 7 out of 8.
