Andy Murray has admitted he may have to restrict his participation in the Davis Cup in order to guard against injuries.
"It's not that I don't want to play Davis Cup. I love it, but I'm hurting myself playing it," said the Scot.
"I have to make a decision whether to play Davis Cup or whether to take a couple of weeks off after it."
"There's no chance I'm going to play the week after Davis Cup, like I did last year, that was stupid," he said.
"I don't think it's about playing for yourself, it's about doing what is right for your body. It's hard on you.
"If you look at what has happened to me when I have played Davis Cup in the past, such as after Ukraine last year - I was playing great before that and I hardly won another match for the rest of the year.
"Maybe they have been coincidences but there have been four or five times when it has happened."
He's said this several times in the past year...Andy is entitled to his opinion however the LTA pays a large percentage of Brads wages, so if he is no longer appearing in the Davis Cup on a regular basis what value for money do they receive?
Personally I can't see him not playing, the Davis Cup is such a big event in world tennis, Hewitt even based his year around it a number of times....its not like the Fed Cup which appears very much like a minor distraction to lots of the top players.
If he does decide not to play, next few years are going to be rather miserable...a prolonged spell in the Euro-African zone till someone else makes a breakthrough. Boggo could become a good no 2, with a good spell in the team and full backing of the coach to boost his confidence...on the fast surfaces he could upset some top 50 players...but with him and Baker/Bloomers/Goodall I doubt we'll make the world group playoffs.
maybe they should chose the surfaces more sensily, for the players, so indoor hard or hard for thsi te would e ok as its the transition time, grass is ok for the mid summer one etc.
going to grass after the hard swing isn't going to be easy just for the 1/2 matchs in DC.

another thing they could do is to have no ATPs the week after world group and world group playoff ties...so allowing the players time to recover while the lower ranked guys who need the dosh can still play challengers
To be honest, I don't think a one-man team - which is what we will virtually be after this tie - will do anything in the world group anyway. I don't think it would be such a bad thing to drop down a level, and let Boggo/Jamie B/Bloomers - and any of the young ones coming up - play DC at a level where they are likely to win a few games.
Andy certainly seems to be a bit injury-prone, and switching surfaces so abruptly no doubt won't help.
Well if we do get to the world group, I think there is a chance of making the quarters depending on the draw (obviously if we get Spain or USA) its a no....we are solely dependant on Andy for the singles rubbers, but he's capable of winning both (provided we rest him for the doubles) and there's a lot of options now in the doubles - Jamie M has to play and as it looks like Aucks and him can't play together, how about Jamie and Ross Hutchins who can play on the right and is fast improving.
Strange. After reading this thread, I read this one - http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=61841&p=3&topicID=13494011 - where it sounds as though Andy IS contemplating carrying on with Davis Cup.
It looks to me like Andy is simply trying not to commit himself to anything. I think a lot will depend on the outcome of this match, if GB goes up to the World Group then i expect that Andy will play, if not then it's less certain. Andy's also, probably trying to get some (more) influence over John Lloyd so he's consulted/considered when choices about surface are made.
