Good to see some of the Brits winning and getting ranking points, but some of the losses are a bit disappointing
Well done to Goodall, Cox, Slabba, Bamford, Illingworth and Skupski for the wins, and getting the ranking point, and hopefully they can kick on in this tournament and win the next match as well
Didn't expect Irwin and Rushby to lose as easily as they did, and Miles should not be losing to La Porte, so his rise up the rankings looks to have slowed down
Evans put up a great performance by the looks of things, and losing in a 3rd set TB to a player 800 places above him shows that he could have done so much better with a decent draw, and very unlucky to lose the match
Feaver almost got his first ranking point, but hopefully it will come next week
Based on this, round 2 has:
Skupski vs. La Porte Goodall vs. Qualifier Cox vs. Junaid Slabba vs. Popovic
Don't know where the Q's are placed, so Bamford/Illingworth could be anywhere in the draw, and could play either King-Turner, Goodall, or Niland

Great show by Richo here and it's sad that he doesn't get his first point this week.

The money you get in doubles at Futures level is ridiculously low - something less than $100 for winning a round, I think. And players need to pay for their lodging, food etc. So it's a common sight in Futures that players who lose in singles withdraw from doubles. I suppose that they let their partners know beforehand that they'll not play if they lose in singles.
Just my guess and it's possible that Seator/Slabba/Seator and Slabba are injured, but I doubt it...
Performance of the day has to be Evo. Junaid has made 3 futures finals and quarters of a challenger this yr and Evo was within a couple of pts of victory. I think that Evo, Cox and Dyce should play some of the weaker futures in Africa/Asia this autumn to accelerate their progress up the rankings as Henman did. They'd be capable of making semis and finals in those.
Impressive result for Cox aswell against the on-form Seator...will be interesting to see how he fares against Junaid today. Cox and Evans are closely matched so on paper it should be another tight one...does depends on how well the game styles match-up though too.
Shame Richardson couldn't get his first pt but first time he's had results like this in a futures...I don't think he's qualified before ?
Good to see Goodall cruising through, Bamford shouldnt pose too many problems, he seems out of form atm and Goodall won their last match in straights
Slabba did well, Sagoo is dangerous as we all know....real shame that they had to play in rd1 though...Jag is so unlucky with draws...hopefully he can stay fit for the rest of this autumn cause he can do some real some real damage especially on these courts
hopefully he can beat Popovic tomorrow, on paper he should do as the Frenchman is ranked about 100 places lower. However last week he won a 10K on clay, didn't beat anyone ranked inside top 650 though. Popovic won yesterday in two tiebreaks...I think it will be close
Big disappointment was Kasiri's loss...he'll really big kicking himself for that...this was a great opportunity to make the quarters and crack top 600. He really should be beating players like La Porte. Seems to be struggling with consistency since he returned from injury...some surprising losses. He hasn't had a good run since those great results in Greece in May, hopefully he can pick things up this autumn...should be doing a lot better than this.
Was hoping that Pritchard would win as he's a good prospect...problem he has is that he's got the huge serve but once opponent's start to read that, he can be too passive in the baseline rallies....needs to try and be more aggressive as he's got the shots to do so. Illingworth is just super-solid, just gives opponents nothing. He will give King-Turner a good match
Disappointing that Irwin and Rushby's losses were so conclusive, for both of those guys I think their future lies in doubles. Rushby is on the verge of top 300 doubles....once he gets into top 250 he'll be able to start playing challengers and then I think he might opt more for the doubles.
saw coxy play and he played pretty good.. didnt get too see much of evos not sure what barnesys doing i think hes mainly playing itfs but not to sure... cheers
