Katie is third seed in qualies. Her first opponent was I recall a top 20 junior several years ago but has not progressed much since then. Unlike Kolkata there are 3 rounds of qualifying:
(3) O'BRIEN, Katie GBR v GERARDS, Michelle NED SCHAUL, Claudine LUX v VAJDOVA, Nikola SVK VRLJIC, Ana CRO v DOZ, Gianna CRO KACHLIKOVA, Katarina SVK v (7) LISJAK, Ivana CRO
Gerards is ranked 326, career best of 207. Has made five 10K finals this year but still shouldn't trouble Katie
If Katie wins, next up later today would be Luxembourg's Claudine Schaul. Schaul is ranked 538 but was WTA top 50 in 2004 (got to no 41) and also made top 75 doubles. She made her comeback in June but has struggled for wins.
The tournament is an outdoor hardcourt. According to the website Vajdova beat Schaul 75 62 26. I assume they just transposed the last 2 sets, but neither player should prove too difficult for Katie.
Most WTA qualies operate on 1 match per day unless there is rain or players arrive late from another tournament. Katie is second on court 1, with play starting at 10 am our time, but I don't know whether there will be any live scores.
