so glad to see her winning again. when she dropped down a bit i thought she was close to throwing in the towel but now i have great hope this will give her the will to push for the top100 in a big way
Afterwards Anne told lta.org.uk "Im pleased to get through that match, especially as I've been ill the last few days and have been holed up in my room so theres not much practice or training been taking place."
This morning has been the first time I've woken up feeling good but I need to get some more food down me so I have some energy for tomorrow's match. I didn't serve as well as I would've liked to and I'll be looking to improve that in my next match but I played the big points well when I had to and she's someone who has been playing well recently so it's a good win for me.
Keothavongs LTA coach Simon Walsh added: It was a great win for Anne. With Errani having just been a semi-finalist in Bali last week and in great form it was a very impressive performance to win in straight sets. I think she played the key points especially well when she had to close out both sets. She played very disciplined tennis and showed great composure.
The win means she's guaranteed to move up to 134 in the rankings next week, equalling her career high and reclaiming British no 1 spot from Katie O'Brien.
Next up is Indian wildcard Sumitha Rao who benefitted hugely from 3rd seed Sania Mirza withdrawing. Rao is ranked 211, she'll been around that level for a number of years, peaking at 150ish in 2003. Like Anne, she's had a great past few months, making a 25K final and semis of a 50K aswell as final qualies round at the US Open. However, Anne couldn't ask for a much better draw in rd2 of a WTA Tier 3 !!!
