Jamie is not playing with Jelena Jankovic in the mixed doubles.confused

His partner is Liezel Huber (USA). I can't say that I have heard of her but apparently she is ranked 2 in doubles.

The mixed doubles draw does not seem to have been published yet so I cannot check to see if Jelena is playing. I wonder who dropped whom? Does this mean that the romance is over?

Jamie's first round match is tomorrow, fifth match on court 7.

Jelena confirmed that she cant play doubles with Jamie because of her singles commitment. she said that she was making the singles as her main priority therefore could not afford to jeopardise her chances of winning the GS by playing mixed doubles. Im looking forward to the Huber/Murray combo i think they can make a terrific pairing. Huber and her partner Cara Black are a double Grand Slam winners this year. Sania Mirza has also been paired with Huber in which they have won quite a few tournaments, so Murray very lucky to pick a fantastic doubles player!smile.gif

1)  Why the confusion?  He left it too late to ask her (see also my post here) - & she has far more important fish to fry ATM, i.e. trying to win the singles.  That said, she is also, apparently, playing in the WD with Séverine Bremond!  I, for one, would have no objection to her carrying off the former:  anybody's better than the "Flanders Mare" (& before anyone says anything, yes, I know Henin's French, rather than Flemish-speaking, but I can't think of a more accurate soubriquet...)

2)  That should be "RSA", not "USA":

3)  If memory serves, the draw for the mixed won't be released until next Monday, so we all have a long wait! wink

4)  Perhaps this little snippet from last Sunday's Mail on Sunday will help answer your question:

Jankovic gives Jamie tennis elbow

Jamie Murray, who flirted his way to a Wimbledon championship with Jelena Jankovic, has been dumped by the world No 3 at the US Open. After winning the mixed doubles title, Murray invited the Serb to spend Christmas with him in Scotland. But a reunion seems a remote prospect as Jankovic ended their on-court relationship in the run-up to New York.

Brad Gilbert, who coaches Andy Murray, said: "I think Jelena has greater aspirations. She is trying to win the US Open (singles)." Jamie, 21, has now paired up with Liezel Huber, a 31-year-old South African.

5)  Who the hell cares?  I became sick to death of catching sight of headlines to post-Wimbledon press articles chronicling their supposed "romance", which I'm not even remotely interested in actually reading:  as far as I'm concerned, their private life, whether together or separately, is just that!

Well in actual fact mate, the draw is upon us a little sooner than you thought.

In fact, 5th match up on court 7 tomorrow, Jamie and Liezel will begin their mixed doubles campaign against Santangelo/Hanley.

Also beginning his tournament tomorrow is James Auckland. Him and Ben Becker take on Haggard/Thomas Johansson 2nd on court 16.

I realised that as soon as I looked at today's OoP, but when I tried to check the draw for the mixed a couple of days ago on the site, all I got was the message "check back in the week beginning 3rd September", or words to that effect... hmm

P.S. I'm not your mate

With regards to point 2 on your post Stircrazy. It IS USA, NOT RSA. Huber was sworn in as an American citizen a few months ago.

Only last month, actually.  I decided to do some research when I saw that she was listed on the USO site as a US player & came across this on Wikipedia:

In July 2007, it was revealed that Huber had been sworn in as a U.S. citizen in an expedited process, so that she could represent the country in WTA Tournaments and more importantly possibly the Fed Cup and the 2008 Beijing Olympics in doubles.

I had every intention of coming back on here & withdrawing my previous comment only to find that you had beaten me to it... mate.

Not exactly picking on him was he Jack. More of a friendly correction so that we weren't all spouting off about Huber being South African when she's not anymore...

It's ok johnny, I'll ignore the moron's baiting and concentrate on the thread title instead.

Stretch and Bootie lost the first set 6-4 and are serving at 3-3 in the second
