Andy's Live Ranking During Weeks 35-36 (US Open)

The New Table is posted here (on britishtennis.net)

Andy's defending 150 points from reaching the fourth round in 2006. However, Hewitt's defending 250, having made the quarters and drops below Andy, pushing him up one to 18 as the fortnight begins smile.gif

However, losing those points means Andy's now just 15 ahead of Hewitt, 30 ahead of Chela and 60 ahead of Ferreiro hmm.gif

Haas, Youzhny, Ferreiro, Safin and Tursunov also lose places because of points defended.

I'm sure Bethan will let us know what the possibilities are in round 1......

Early update following Andy's win:

Andy's win adds a bit of space between himself and Hewitt, Mathieu and Chela.

Ferreiro, his number 4 threat lost smile.gif as did his number 2 target Baghdatis smile.gif
The only player to advance so far is Gasquet, who overtakes Canas.

I'm sure Bethan will let us know what the possibilities are in round 1......

Possibilities for the rest of round 1:

Andy is safe at 18 for the round. Hewitt could get back within 15 points but no one can overtake.

So the What if for round 2?:

If Andy were to win round 2 he'd have 1345 points. And would overtake nobody cry.gif

In fact, he needs to reach the fourth round to gain any places for certain (Baghdatis).

I'll do a full what if for all eventualities tomorrow.

What if...

...Andy were to win the US open?
(start with the most likely thing wink.gif). He would have 2270 points. He would definitely overtake Ferrer, Youzhny, Moya, Baghdatis. He might overtake Gonzalez (out before r4), Blake (r4), Berdych (final), Ljubicic (final), Robredo (final), Gasquet (final), Haas(final), Canas (final). He could be overtaken by no one.
Only one other person can get to the final leaving Andy with:
best case: 6 (+13)
worst case: 9 (+10)

...Andy were to lose in the final? He would have 1970 points. He would definitely overtake Baghdatis. He might overtake Berdych(out before qf), Moya(final), Youzhny(final), Ferrer(final), Ljubicic(out before qf), Robredo(qf), Gasquet(semis), Haas(semis) and Canas(semis). He could be overtaken by hewitt, Chela, Monaco, Nalbandian, Safin and Almagro(all would need to win)
best case: 8(+11)
worst csae: 14 (+5)

...Andy were to lose in the semis? He would have 1720 points. He would definitely overtake Baghdatis. He might overtake Haas(out before r4), Gasquet(r4), Canas(r4), Ferrer(qf), Youzhny(sf), Moya(sf). He could be overtaken by hewitt(final), Chela(final), Monaco(final), Nalbandian(final), Safin(win), Almagro(win), Tursunov(win), Starace(win), Melzer(win), and everyone down to Santoro(win).

best case: 11 (+8)
worst case: 17(+2)

...Andy were to lose in the quarters? He would have 1520 points. He would definitely overtake Baghdatis. He might overtake Youzhny(r4), Moya(r4). He could be overtaken by...to be continued (at the end of round two when there are slightly fewer people to list otherwise it'll be impossible to understand. (same for the rest below)
best case: 15 (+4)
worst case: 17(+2)

...Andy were to lose in the fourth round? He would have 1420 points. He would definitely overtake Baghdatis. He might overtake Moya(r3).
best case: 16 (+3)
worst case: 18(+1)

...Andy were to lose in the third round? He would have 1345 points. He would definitely overtake no one. He might overtake no one.
best case: 18 (+1)
worst case: 18(+1)

...Andy were to lose in the second round? He would have 1305 points. He would definitely overtake no one. He might overtake no one.
best case: 18 (+1)
worst case: 18(+1)

Andy, as you know, won. Canas and Gasquet lose ahead of him; Almagro advances behind, while Haas wins up ahead, but doesn't advance.

Bethan, Who should we worry about today?

I know where my evil thoughts are today.  Moya is 60 points ahead of Andy, and has yet to play his second round match. So I have my wax model and pins at the ready to try and stop him before he gets any more points evileye

I'll worry about people overtaking Andy if and when he gets knocked out smile

Andy, as you all know, lostcry.gif

The good news is that close threats Hewitt, Nalbandian, Safin and Almagro did likewise smile.gif, as did Ljubicic and Youzhny, ahead.

The bad news is that Chela and Monaco are through to the fourth round, and Chela overtook as he got there furious.gif Ferrer and Moya are also through.

Andy drops back down to 19 with Chela overtaking cry.gif

Bethan, who are the threats that remain?

While waiting for Bethan, I will just jump in to ask for all jinxing thoughts to be turned towards Juan Monaco. I make it that he will pass Andy if he wins just one more match evileye.gif
