Well played Naomi! Hopefully, she will keep up the good form into the next round! Poutchek is no pushover, if she performs like she did today, then she got a chace. If not, then at least shes got some confidence going into the USQ
Poutchek progressed yesterday when Italy's Alberta Brianti retired at 6-0, 5-2 down. They've played once before, a stunning 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(6) win for Naomi in WTA Birmingham qualies on the grass in 2006. Poutchek has been a regular in the top 100 for the past 7 years with a career high of 55 (2002) and she's currently ranked 80. It'll be a tough test for Naomi as Poutchek has been competing in these WTAs all year long. It hasn't been a great year for Poutchek but she won matches at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and qualified for Indian Wells and Miami.
1-0 Poutchek - mini break already 2-0 Poutchek 3-0 Poutchek 4-0 Poutchek - oh dear 2MB down 5-0 Poutchek - I think that is that for this set 6-0 Poutchek - 6 set points 6-1 Poutchek - at least avoided the whitewash 7-1 Poutchek
