Some quotes from Dyce after his rd1 win:

It was a little bit unsettling because I only found out a couple of minutes before walking out onto court and I had prepared to face the Russian, finding out a few things about his game from a few of the other British lads who had played him, said Edinburgh-born Dyce.

Perhaps that contributed to me not playing at all well for the first set-and-a-half but I managed to get things together and was very pleased with the way I took control and then dominated the final set. In the end I won eight out of the last nine games and felt very good in the hot weather conditions which were very similar to Florida where I loved my time at Nicks academy.

Bollettieri was actually standing courtside for the final games of the match and was more than complimentary about Dyces game. Hes really toughened up and is improving all the time, said the American guru. I really like what I am seeing.

Dyce is expecting to spend a lot more time in the States and once the tournament is over expects to visit universities such Kentucky, Florida and Pepperdine in California where Andy Murrays coach Brad Gilbert was once a student. But first he is also linking up again with Harri Heliovaara, the Finn with who he won the doubles title in Australia.

Hes been out injured for a while but hes fine again now and we are teaming up again in the doubles, added Dyce. It will be the first time weve played together since and hopefully we will gel together as well as we did in Melbourne.


No info on the other 3 junior matches though cry.gif I've asked Dycey whether he saw Rice or Cox's matches

I believe this is the first overseas slam since French Open 2005 at which two British juniors have reached rd2 (at RG it was Murray and Kennaugh).

First slam win for Evo too clap.gif Next year he'll surely be seeded so should be the first of many.

Looking ahead to today's rd2 matches.....

Evo plays Grigor Dimitrov who's 16, probably one of the best 1991 players, already ranked 48 in juniors. It's gonna be pretty tough as Dimitrov made the quarters of last week's G1 in Canada and in rd1 here he's knocked out the 11th seed Rivera from Chile for the second week in a row. Last month he made the semis of a couple of G1s on clay.

Against British juniors...Dimitrov beat Bull and Akhazzan pretty comfortably on grass but Smethurst beat him in straights at Roehampton and Cox beat him 3 and 1 in South America.


Dyce's opponent Radu Albot is from that famous hotbed of tennis talent, Madagascar. He's also 18, ranked 19 in juniors. Is urgently in need of a haircut going by his ITF pic. Has been competing mainly in futures, and is just outside the top 1000. Made his first 10K semi on German clay a few weeks back.


Both matches look pretty tough, both are capable of winning if they find their best form. I'd guess that Evo has a slightly better chance
