Entry list:

Cox needs a single withdrawal, so he should get in. And then there are two SE spots.

Why on earth is Donald Young doing this? hmm.gifhmm.gif

That is true, but why bother when you clearly are a level above it? confused.gif Imagine Andy turning up for US Open Juniors 2005!

Is he really above this level? he has had loads of chances at ATP & challenger level & has not delivered, I think the juniors is still a big challenge to Young & I would not be at the least bit suprised if he doesn't win the open, if you weigh up where Andy was at this age, he was at a different level but Young is not at that level yet & I am not sure if he ever will be.
Although one thing is for sure, Andy was an expectional junior & almost a freak in what he achieved at junior & senior level from the age of 15-17 & there is no junior in the world at the moment capable of doing the same.

No, Young has achieved more than what Andy had at the same age. Andy was ranked quite some distance below him.

I seriously doubt that he is going to win two rounds at the USO (men's tourney, that is), but you never know...

Playing ITFs when you are winning matches against top 200 guys shows a serious lack of confidence. He should go to Beijing and play qualies instead.

I understand what you mean regarding rankings etc although I think it may be incorrect as I am sure Andy was last year junior when he reached Last 32 at Wimbledon & qualied at the open, meaning he was highier ranked but lets not forget Young has had alot of WC into challengers, ATP MD events & the USO, most of which give ATP points for actually not really earning/winning them.
If you were to look at Andy's & Donalds ATP profiles Andy had played & won a far greater amount of matches. On top of that at Donalds age Andy had reached the 3rd Rnd of Wimbledon & qualified for the US Open MD, I think you would agree that although Young may have been ranked highier he hasn't achieved what Andy has. Ultimately it is a matter of opinion but in my opinion I think that Young needs to compete at the USO in order to further his developement not only that, he is hugely backed finanicially with endorsements & sponsors so may be under contract to play the open.

Actually Andy was slightly older than Donald when he beat Bastl and Stepanek at Wimbly - something like 18 and 2. That'll roughly be equal to Donald's age when he'll play this year's USO.

Donald has a Challenger title and has made the semis of another. He has two Junior Slams on top of that. That's surely better than Andy's few Futures titles, a Challenger quarters and one Junior Slam?

And from this year you don't get points for losing in the first round of Challenger and Tour events.

Yes, Donald should have won a Tour match by now. But his not winning means nothing! Pat Rafter lost his first eight ATP matches but went on to win two Slams.

If Donald Young outranks Andy in the next 5 years I'd be very surprised...

I would be surprised, too.

But it could very well happen in seven or eight years time. He'll take a lot of time to mature.

But he'll have Carpenter and Boluda to reckon with by then! clap.giflaughing.gif

I think when you look at the facts Young is not in Murrays league, he is not as talented nor has he achieved as much , in fact you said yourself that you doubt very much Young would win 2 rounds at the MD USO Murray as you pointed out at that age reached the 3rd round of Wimby.
Don't get me wrong I think Young is a good talent but just not the type of talent many are hoping him to be.
He has had more WC in to Chall & ATP MD than any other player in history with the lowest return, he himself has realised that there is work to be done hence his U-turn in playing juniors again & although he is ranked 300ish ATP there are better players in the ITF 100 than Young & over time they will prove it if not now then in the near future.
Bottom line Young may have won a slam more than Murray but it is in the senior game that players will be remembered & Murray is by far way ahead of what Young has so far achieved purely on reaching Rnd3 at Wimby & qualifying for USO alone, on top of that in Murray's last year junior he reached his first ATP MD final in Bangkok losing to Federer 6-3 7-5, & posted wins against the likes of Henman, Dent & Berdych.
Surely Arka you can not argue with these facts....confused

johnnylad......I have been with Carpenter the last few weeks & he reminds me alot of Andy Murray at that age & is a very tactical player & has a great tennis brain on him, once he gets a bit stronger he will be a world class junior & I will even stick my neck out & say he will be top 10 ITF at some point in his junior career, infact I think he will make top 100 within a year.
