An interesting day in the Bronx yesterday. Top seed, second seed, 6th seed all lost in R1.
4th seed Capdeville withdrew in Boggo's section.
Form-man and dangerous floater Darcis lost in Boggo's half. So two of Boggo's bogeys (Capdeville and Haase) both leave his section. I really hope he's fit enough to capitalise...
This draw has really opened pu for someone - that that someone is British!
Challengers are so strong. Darcis/Haase/Vasselin have been on fire but step back to challengers and get burned.
The third seed's out now, too: Sam Warburg beat Olivier Patience in straight sets (6-3 7-6) earlier! Our friend Fabio Fognini progressed at the expense of Nikita Kryvonos (7-6 6-4), too...

What on earth is happening to our men at the moment, Baker's loss was of course expected but I just cannont get my head around how alex has not won a match since queens and now going into the us open with hardly any confidence, where has it gone so wrong?
And it opens up the question once more of who gets that 4th place in the DC team.
Alex looked a shoe in earlier on in the year but now I really can't see him being picked. Jamie B filled the role last year but he's not done much of note for a while either. Bloomers has done nothing at all for ages
I have a feeling he will revert to the good old last resort of Jamie Delgado. With his incredible 0-93 Davis Cup record, we can't fail but hammer the Croats.
Methinks, big Ivan will be trembling at the thought of taking on Tim and Andy right now. That's if he even bothers to play. I think Karlovic and Cilic will probably take care of us right now.

alex is still injured. i am guessing he was trying hard in the 1st set, but let his performance drop in the 2nd, very similar scoreline to the stoppini match last week.
of course after thsi length of time i think hsi confidence will have taken a bit of a blow too.
just hope he recovers fully soon, it has lasted so long now, cant see him winning any matches at the usoq let alone qualifying, hopefully he will be recovered for the indoor season at least.

Boggo is injured so his loss though dissappointing is hardly unexplainable, I seem to remember in the past he's been injured and come back in some great form.
Baker had a great chance this week, sure and his loss is perhaps the hardest to take but he's still steadily rising up the rankings and putting in the hard work, very very few players make the break by winning challenger after challenger it's a process and Baker is moving in the right direction.
As for the DC, it's over a month away still, Andy's injury is nearly fixed and it's now just a matter of playing himself back into some form, I see no reason why he won't have done that by late September. Tim I've got less positive things to say about but he always brings his best to the DC and Wimbledon and here we've got both together, just look at his first round Wimby match, I'd wager a whole lot of money that had the match been played in any other tournament/country in the world, Tim would've lost. And as for filling the final spot, the change in Boggo's results from Queens and Wimby to now (just over a month) proves that form can completely turn around in that amount of time not to mention his injury again. Same with Baker, though I'm not sure he's ready for the Croatian team yet.
Hopefully this post creates a spark of hope in this dreary thread!

Don't quite know where the results posted here came from, but neither of them are correct.... unfortunately both the Brits did still lose
Baker lost 7-6(4), 6-7(1), 6-1
Boggo lost 3-6, 7-5, 6-1
At least they got a set in their matches, but still disappointing to see them lose. Boggo clearly isn't fully fit at the moment, as otherwise he wouldn't be struggling against Lipsky, so I don't think he is likely to make the US Open at this rate.
wow boggo actauly came to clsoe to winning then, thats actaully cheered me up cause he must have been 5-5 in the 2nd. shame he lost it then, but it shows he is getting better. (i hope)
maybe JB ran out of steam?

No Aucks in the doubles but Hutchins teams up with Zverev as 3rd seeds.
They must have fought pretty hard, judging by the score, but sadly, they lost, 6-7(10) 7-6(2) [10-12]. So we're now down to a 25% Brit interest in one single tournament this week - & that won't be for very much longer, unless Bhups & Stretch can do a Carlos Moyà...
