HUGE win for Kirsty! She's been doing really well these past weeks. Maybe this will make her see that fast surfaces suit her better than clay.
It's a shame Katharina Brown couldn't beat Doutrelant. Well done to Tara after a bagel first set, that girl must have balls to stay confident in such a situation and as a 14 year old, I mean it would be very easy for her to think "I'm still very young and winning one round is very good etc". Good to see Wibbly Wobbly making a QF - I hope she goes far. Overall though only 3 out of 8 Brits made it to the QF (though 2 faced British opponents), which is a little saddening.
Wow got Tara. and and amazing win for Kirsty Wooley. Verardi looked in good form in the 1st round. Good to see Emily in a QF again. Hopefully Tara can keep going. I'll be back tomorrow to see how she does.
Tara was 15 on Monday, so is having a nice birthday week.
I think she can make her first SF tomorrow; she has the ability to beat Du Plessis (and, on her day, most people in 10K tournie's; just it needs to be her day).
Du Plessis def. Tara Moore 6-0 6-0 ("Awful: just too many errors.") Clerico 6-3 4-6 Emily Webley- Smith (Apologies - my mistype last time) Kirsty Wooley a set down to Haberkorn
Emily was 0-3 down in the 3rd when i left. She was just making sloppy mistakes. Its a match she should win but 0-3 down will be tough.
Kirsty led 5-3 in the second but was brough back to 5all when i left. She led 5-4 in the 1st set and got to 30all but played a couple of bad points.
Kirsty is so much better than her ranking. She should be up in the 600's at least.
Tara was just horrible today, loads of errors, low 1st serve %. Du Plessis was consistent and dealt with Taras power well. She hit some great drop shots. Du Plessis i think will win the title, i don't think shes that good of a player but she does everything quite well.
Tough losses for both Em and Kirsty. eek! Tara...still an encouraging result (reaching QF) for a 15 year old, hopefully by the time she is 16 she'll be winning these events.
