Margot Carter was defeated in the first round 6-1, 6-1 by 5th seed Kontratividi. Becky Llewellyn, seeded 7, also crashed out in the opening round in a shock defeat to unranked Alla Aleksandrova of Russia 6-2, 6-3.

Mel and Sarah both face Spanish opposition ranked lower than them, however their opponents have come through several rounds of tough qualifying so will be match tough and used to the surface.
Maybe Sarah is still hampered by her injury from last week... She's been unlucky with injury this year - she was also injured in Korea during her 3 week tour there which really inhibited her chances of picking up valuable points and wins.
Next up is Marina ERAKOVIC (NZL) (2) who is currently ranked 180 and has reached a high of 147 this year. She was runner up last week at 25K La Coruna, losing to the same opponent as Mel.
