All in all not a ba match considering Henman hasnt played singles in over a month... I sner is in form having won in Lexington..so i guess he was riding high on confidence!! Hopefully Henman can score a few wins in doubles and gain some confidence whcih he needs for the next few weeks!
That's tough. Looking at the scores, Tim played pretty well - almost as many aces as Isner. Saved a game from 15-40 to level the final set at 5-5 and really lost by a couple of points. So disappointing. Hope he makes progress in the doubles.
Who knows what happened as we didn't see it on TV....I am obviously shocked and so disapointed....I really thought Tim would win in straights....I can't wait to see the comments on the Beeb message board as if they start talking about Tim losing to a loser in the 400s I'd be pissed as this guy will be top 150 this time next year....
It just isn't going to happen for Tim, and he really needs to win some matches before his ranking completes goes into a downward spiral, especially as he has a win in the US Open and Cincinatti to defend, plus a 1st round loss in Canada which he can't defend, so a first round loss in Cincinatti, New Haven and US Open takes him out of the top 100
He needed the win here, as Becker next is a very similar kind of player and would have had a confidence boost.
He still needs to play more tournaments, and he really should have entered Bejing, as that isn't the strongest tournament, and he has to gain some points soon, as he simply isn't going to defend his Tokjo final and Bangkok QF at the moment, which would put him way behind Boggo in the rankings
I agree that Tim needs to enter some more events. If he drops out of the top 100 which is looking like a real posibility then it will be hard to get back and will he feel motivated enough. I would have liked to see him play Newport and why can't he consider playing at some of the bigger challengers 100k, 125k etc. Maybe it would help him to get a few valuable points back. Agassi did it when he needed to. Tim says he is still pasionate about the game so surely it is worth considering.
Having said all that I really like Henman and all that he has achieved and to be honest the blunt reality is that time is now catching up with him and even when he is fully fit there are still too many guys that are younger, hit a bit harder and run a little quicker. If Tim can't turn things around soon to a level that he wants to be at for the bigger events then maybe it is time to start thinking about retiring from the tour and getting involved in British Tennis in a new direction. His input would be invaluable.
Isner just beat Becker in another close match....but having said that I have been feeling so blue since Tim lost yesterday. I have just loved following him over the years and his career has been fantastic. I still hold out hope that he could get on a run and win a couple of matches and be dangerous. I still have hope and if it is not to be I will be grateful for the past 11 or so years of following him. I count it a real pleasure to be able to say I have seen him play live five times and was there live for that epic Roddick match at Indian Wells.
