This will be a very interesting matchup. At 6'9, Isner's serve is very tough to pick up. He won last weeks Challenger in Lexington and is playing his best tennis of his career. Isner lost in the NCAA finals of singles this past year and has a very bright future. I would expect Henman to put a lot of pressure on Isner and come in at every opportunity. As well as having a big serve, Isner has a nice forehand that he tries to hit a winner from anywhere on the court. I see Isner taking the first set, but getting a little tight around the collar and wont be able to close out the match letting the veteran win it in 3. Not many service breaks, imo.
Straight sets for Tim here. There is a huge jump in class and when Isner comes out and realizes it is Tim over the other side of the net I think he will start to feel a little tight around the collar. You could argue that Isner has played well while Tim has taken a break, but Tim is up for this and I can see him doing things to unsettle the young American.
Having said that, I have enjoyed reading about Isner and I will be pulling for him in future events, I just hope he goes down this week. Tim has seen many a big serve before and I doubt this will be anything new for him at all.
Tim has only played big-serving Croat Ivo Karlovic, at 6'10" an inch taller than Isner, once but he won that one. Admittedly it took him five sets! (USO 2004)
But Tim has played well against other big serving guys like Arthurs, Scud, Rafter, Roddick & even Greg. I just think you need more than a big serve to beat Tim. I also think that Tim will figure him out after a little while and know how to trouble him. Also, this guy is used to NCAA tennis and is playing a former top four player in an ATP event.
If I am wrong I'll tip my cap, but even with the year Tim has had I'd be shocked if he lost this, unless he is hurt or something.
4-4 in the first set....Henman is racing through his service games often to love....but has yet to earn a break point on Isner's serve.....
I hope it does not go to a TB as you have to fancy the guy with the huge serve, although Tim is serving well. Hopefully Tim will earn a break point and John will choke.
