There was only one round of qualifying at this obscure futures event.
Catriona STEWART (GBR) defeated Astrid QUINTANA (VEN) 7-5 6-4
In round one she faces fellow qualifier Lena Litvak (USA) who is unranked and this is her first ever senior tournament...and she got a bye through qualifying so Cat is her first senior match. At junior level she reached a high of 37 in 2006 so could be tough opposition for Cat. Cat however reached the second round of 10K Calgary last week after qualifying so should be brimming with confidence and can hopefully exploit Litvak's rustiness (she hasn't played a match at any level since September 2006).
Ouch, Catriona's confidence must have taken a beating. Hopefully she can take some positives from successfully qualifying for the second week in a row...
