Week 31 - Futures F13 (M) - Ilkley, GBR

Rushby was always likely to win that match, so him in the QF's was expected, and he has had another good week by the looks of things

Great win for Corrie though, and proved that he deserved the WC this week by his results (still... if there were other people around, he shouldn't have got one, as he is never going to trouble the top 500)

That seems a bit harsh on a 19-year-old whose just beaten the world no. 478 in straight sets.

Maybe a little harsh, but he didn't look that impressive when I saw him play earlier this year, with him making quite a few errors and not looking like having the killer stroke that you need to make it up the rankings (then again, he still won, but that was mainly because his opponent totally lost the plot and couldn't get the ball anywhere near the court)

His results since then have been reasonably good, so it could just have been a bad day that I saw him on, but I don't think he will get much higher than the 350-400 range unless he finds something new for his game

Ed Corrie beat Brydan Klein (Australian junior champion) last week too, 6-4 6-2!

True, although the rest of results this year haven't been overly impressive.

He probably has improved since I saw him play, but there are better prospects who have a similar ranking to Corrie

How is giving Tim Hewitt a wildcard not benefitting British tennis? He had decent results as an U-18 last year. .

That is very true. Giving Tim a wild card was a very good decision and he played very against Rushby by the look of it.

That is not true at all.

Of the young players who have had a few WCs into Futures, Smethurst and Coupland are the only ones to have not won a point in or outside Britain.

Thornley, Evans, Cox, Dyce, Rice and Milton have all done incredibly well in Futures this year.

I think given time, Ed Corrie will turn into a pretty good player. Considering he only got his first ranking points late last year, i think he is progressing pretty well.
I am glad to see brassington getting his first ranking point though, he has been on the future tour for ages, about time he has finally got what is coming to him. :)

Thought that Milton would beat Brassington, but well done to Kyle.

Rushby and Corrie both start at 11 today. May have results by early afternoon?

That was a bit of an unnecessary jibe, from what I see Cox, Evans et al seem decent players but really, how many wildcards has Hewitt had? I can't remember him ever getting that many?  Bitching about wildcards is a futile exercise anyway, if a player's that good, they'll make it happen.
