Corrie, Allinson and Hewitt, WHY!!!!

Two of the three won and you could say all of them did better than expected....I'd say well done.  Milton also played well.

I just didn't think the WC's will benefit British Tennis in the long term apart from Milton.
Yeah Corrie won, but against and Unraked qualifier who had to play 4 matches in 3 days. If Corrie gets to the quaters or semis then it has some validity, not just for one ranking point?

There wasn't anyone else to give it to this week. Most of the top young players are playing Juniors in Slovakia and Portugal or are just back from a trip to South Africa.

The only ones who were in a position to play here but aren't there are Willis and Matt James.

How is giving Tim Hewitt a wildcard not benefitting British tennis? He had decent results as an U-18 last year. A very strange statement seeing as the golden boys that seem to get wildcards every other week never seem to do anything with them...

I agree to an extent. Wildcards are partially to give players a foot in the door in tournaments so they can accellerate (sp?) their ranking rise. If they don't take their chances then it's only fair to give the wc to someone else to see what they can do with it.

There is, of course, a limit - there's no point in completely wasting a wc - but I'm all in favour of spreading the wealth.

I've noticed a few of Alex's results and I'm quite impressed. Took out a seed in qualifying and took Groth to 3 sets. He's won a few counties tournaments I believe and always performed well in Futures quallies.

R2

Smeets vs Dickson
Brassington vs Rushby
King-Turner vs Smith
Allinson vs Durek
Corrie vs Groth

I guaranteed British QF and probably that will be all....

RE: wildcards.

Matthew James, Sean Thornley and Ian Atkinson are all playing the British tour event (also in Ilkley) this week.

Surely one of them deserved a chance at a wildcard more?

Well done to Brassington and Dickson for getting their ranking points, and that makes it 3 new Brits in the rankings, so things are looking up for us at the bottom of the rankings

Well done to Rushby, Allinson, Smith and Corrie on the wins and another point as well

Rushby should overcome Brassington today, but I think it may go to 3 as Kyle has been in form this week. However, the rest of the Brits are all underdogs, but it would be good to see 1 of them pull off the win

Just out of interest, where was Skupski this week, as he was another contender to get the WC?

Both Skupski brothers would have been better then Hewitt imo,

Im glad Ed Corries proven me wrong, great win for him and hopefully he can turn this into future success.
my points still valid for Hewitt though. imo
To Mr Baseliner, he had good results in U-18 torunys LAST YEAR!!!!
Not done much on the procircuit where il think ul find younger players like Rice and Cox imo have done much better then him. Especially people like Cox who have secured points abroad and not just been handed a WC just coz he won a national chamionship which didn't even have our best players in it
I personally think most of the 'golden boys' would whip Tim hewitt at this point.
