I am saying Thornley for the title, he digs deep and always prodcues shock ictories so im guessing he will here but again its a very strong field and i think evans, cox, rice, dyce, milton, pauffley, willis, james could all win this tournament incl thornely of course

Will Carpenter and Marsalek compete at 18+U or at 16+U?

They can do both, as they are in successive weeks.

They were not in qualifying for the U18's, and so would need wild cards to get in. Ditto the 16's, although WC's would be a certainty for that.

On current form I'd put Marsalek as favourite for the U16's. He beat the current national No 1 Jordan McCulloch comfortably in the Portugal ITF last week. Although of course Carpenter beat Smethurst there too.

thanks Ratty.

Neal Skupski has qualified for the U18's.

Watch out for him everyone!

I hope that one of Marsalek and Carpenter will take it. It's always tough winning matches against people you play against all the time, but it'll be a massive upset if someone else takes it.

Marsalek seems stronger than Jack on clay.

Here are my picks for the titles (I'll probably end up embarrassing myself, but picks are always fun)...

18s -

Boys: Between Cox and Evans. I won't mind someone else taking it either...
Girls: Tara Moore.

16s -

Boys: James Marsalek.
Girls: Tara if she decides to play (which I doubt). Jocelyn Rae otherwise.

14s -

Boys - George Morgan is in great form.
Girls - Who'll play here?? Will the Rens bother? Robson? I am assuming that they won't do this and will go with Joanna Henderson or Elisha Gabb. Would love to see Sian Bayliss do well.

12s -

Boys - Jonny O'Mara.
Girls - Eleanor Dean. I know that she is very young and won't be disappointed if she goes out in the first round (which is highly unlikely since she beat Katie Millar and Dunne, who are our numbers 2 and 3, on clay a few months ago).

Dyce isn't doing this. w00t.gif

Unfortunately we will probably have an Evo vs. Willis clash in round two. cry.gif That should have been the semis or the final.

I think that all the big names will win their first round matches, although Fitzpatrick and James have an equal chance of beating each other.

The seeding has been done according to ATP rankings, followed by ITF rankings, which I think is extremely fair.

Strong draw, and I think you're right about the seedings. Good system.

Sticking my neck out and going for Niall Angus. In great form, has the confidence, but no one's really looking at him. Like Hewitt last year.

I was wondering why Cox was the #1 seed over Evans. Should be an interesting tournament.

Arka.. have are guys really mastered the junior game??? Juniors should only move on to the senior game if they are playing & winning lots of juniors matches, I think if you look at the record of all our top juniors you will see there is great room for improvement.
I know a few of the top french juniors & they will all be playing a series of French national tournaments throughout September, surely we need our guys competiting & winning on a regular basis in order for them to learn their trade & learn how to win tough matches in tight situations, by putting juniors in to many senior events this will not happen, resulting in players being unable to push from being fairly good juniors to pro players... we have been guilty of this far to often in the past & I know whilst I have a hand in it with players I work with, it wont be happening again.
The Nationals is of key importance Nationally & will remain so, it serves a huge role & whilst the top juniors that we have are not in the top 300 ATP, this event will be aiding their developement...
