Nominees:

(1) Alex Bogdanovic: Boggo reached a new career high ranking after a superb run to the 3rd round of Queens, beating world no 40 Hyung-Taik Lee before coming within 2 pts of beating Andy Roddick. Also made the mixed doubles quarters with Mel South at Wimbledon

(2) Richard Bloomfield: Made the quarters of Surbiton

(3) Jamie Baker: Won his first ATP match at Queens and then qualified for Nottingham beating top 100 player Chris Guccione

(4) James Auckland: Made Surbiton doubles final and won a round at Wimbledon

(5) Jamie Murray: Won the ATP Nottingham doubles title and the mixed doubles at Wimbledon.

(6) Goodall and Hutchins: Made their first ATP doubles final at Nottingham and won a round at Wimbledon

Why have you not included Lee Childs the only Brit to win more than one singles match at Wimbledon. He won THREE.

Josh's achievements in qualifying were recognised last year, why not Lee's this year?

or is doubles now the important game?

It's nothing to do with doubles being the more important game...often there are more singles player than doubles players in the monthly shortlist. I never have more than 6 nominees and I have to choose which players I feel have achieved the most over the entire month.

It was a tough call between Lee and James Auckland. Personally, although Lee's run at Wimbledon was really great I chose James as he did so well at Surbiton and came v close to making the 3rd round at Wimbledon while Lee didn't do that well at Surbiton or Queens. On reflection, maybe Lee should have been there instead of Bloomers, but I went for Bloomers for his run at Surbiton (he beat higher ranked players than Lee did in the qualies), the performance he put up against Hewitt at Wimbledon and the sheer entertainment value of his post-Wimbledon interview with GQ biggrin.gif

Last year there weren't many contenders for the shortlist so it wasn't hard to pick Josh.

Maybe we should have a vote for who goes in the shortlist before doing the poll ?

With regards to the poll: I picked Jamie Murray as his achievements through the month were spectacular ! Boggo was a close 2nd

jamies achivments were great, but for me he was severly helped by the fact the he partnered Jankovic, i suspect that if he had gone with a brit girl he wouldnt have won wimby

So? That is like saying if Clement had a Brit for a partner instead of Llorda, he wouldn't have won it, so he doesn't deserve it.

But did i say jamie didnt deserve to win wimby anywhere? i am talking purely in the context of a players monthly achivments poll, and in a poll where you are inclduing doubles results the ability of the partner, who also contributes to the success, should also be taken into consideration imo.

I suspect if it wasn't for a brit girl and her partner doing them a favour, Murray and Jankovic might not have taken the title.

That is just not good logic.

And it's just not the mixed success that Jamie had, he got the 3rd round of Mens at Wimbly, got to quaters of queens, and won Nottingham.

He achieved a hell of a lot more than any other Brit on there. 2 titles he got, apart from Goodall and Hutch, no-one else got even close to winning anything, bar Surbiton.

True he got extremely lucky with his partner but he still would have been my pick for this month even if he hadn't won Wimby as he also made the semis of Queens, won Nottingham and made 3rd round if Wimbledon.

Boggo did well but just at Queens, if he'd won a few rounds at Nottingham and/or Wimbledon he would have got my vote.

biggrin.gif  Yeah it was so nearly a case of what might have been, Bloomfield and Borwell were a couple of pts away from knocking them out in rd1

Amazing how history often rests on these knife edges
