Shame for Bally but Ditty is a big thing on the USA ITF Circuit - she is on a winning spree at 50K Level and is a few matches away from setting a USTA record. AND this is Bally's best US Summer Hard Court result and should stand her in good sted for 75K Washington next week.
"Heavy rains moved the evening matches to the Hilary J. Boone Indoor advantage Ditty since she trained there when she was 13 and 14 and a couple of years ago when coached by former University of Kentucky All-American Carlos Drada. But, her dominant start almost unraveled when at 2-1 second set she had to stretch her pinched back during the change-over, then called for a medical time-out down 2-3.
The quick therapy worked well enough as Ditty once again set up her points nicely, running around her backhand for booming forehands. I feel like I can play anyone with my forehand, she said. Plus, this match was much more fun to play because this girl gave me some pace."
It seems like Ditty thrived on Bally's fast paced balls. It seems Anne will have to be on top form to beat this American.
Anne won 62 75 and plays Dubois in the finals. From the tournament website - honestly the first two words are as they appear! -
'Two men who are products of collegiate powerhouses; Stephanie Dubois, who is making her third straight serious Lexington run; and Anne Keothavong, who already has better memories of the Bluegrass than tearing her ACL at UKs Boone Tennis Complex three years ago, will all vie for Fifth Third Bank Tennis Championships supremacy today. That means Ashland native Julie Ditty, the No. 7 seed, wont be tying the U.S. Pro Circuit record for combined singles and doubles titles in her current hometown. Eighth-seeded Keothavong, combining grace and power, accentuated the dominant performance with a last point ace for the 6-2, 7-5 victory on Saturday. I didnt give her too many opportunitiesnor the (pro-Ditty) crowd much chance to get into the match, said the Britisher. (Keothavong) really played well, said a smiling Ditty, relieved to have a day off after four straight nights of World Team Tennis with the Boston Lobsters, followed by four straight featured evening matches here. She was looking forward to sister Christy Hajjar making chocolate chip cookies and then Julies off Sunday to try for circuit title number 30 this next week at the $75K event in Washington, D.C. Fourth-seeded Dubois, the Lexington runner-up in 05 and a semifinalist a year ago, looked once again like she had something to do with the construction of the Ryan Holder Centre Courts as she toppled top-seeded Casey DellAcqua of Australia 7-6 (5), 6-2. I tightened up on the match points, but I really moved her around, said the Canadian, who is ranked 141 in the world. My goal is to be Top 100 by January.
yer great win for anne, should be back nearer to the 150 mark now. I find it rather funny how only last week john was calling for anne's retirement! bad judgement as always , Welcome to the forum tutu
