Roger-Vasselin, Edouard FRA 92 At last, Tim entering the IS events while he still can! Go, Tim, get some ranking points!
Phew, great to see Tim finally entering an ordinary ATP event....whilst it's true that he has to be careful with his back, if he harbours any hopes of getting back to the top 30 he has to play these lower tournaments. He's had precious few matches this year as it is so overdoing things cant be an issue. Personally I would have liked to have seen Tim enter 2 of Newport, LA and Indianapolis...I know he doesn't usually play those tourneys but thats cause he's been going deep in the grass ATPs....with 3 early exits he would have had 2 weeks to rest and recover before LA, plus Newport is ideal for his game
If Boggo gets a DA for the USO, he'll probably play qualies here
yeah it's a shame he lost so many pts at Newport, would have been in with a chance otherwise. Still he'll be seeded high in USO qualies, it's one of his fav tourneys and he's qualified before so should have a good chance this year as long as he avoids bogeymen like Okun in his section !
It is so strange to see Tim's name on the bottom of such a list....also strange to see the likes of Sebastien Grosjean & Thomas Johansson's names on the Alts at such a tourney. It must be so tough getting old. I still remember that great Wimbledon match between Grosjean and Henman back in when was it now? 2002 maybe? I thought Tim would win....now they are just a ranking place apart but in the 70s....wow.
Yeap....good to see Tim playing this event as you know he wants to get back on track.
Good to see Andy take the WC here, as he is going to need all the practise he can get before the US Open, as it is unlikely he will get a nice draw in both the MS events beforehand, and could well draw someone like Hewitt in round 1 which would be a disaster really
With this being the week before the US Open, the qualies probably won't be too strong with a lot of the players just outside the top 100 preparing for that, so it could be an idea for people like Boggo, Bloomers and Baker to try qualies, as it could be a nice way to pick up a few ranking points

Boggo etc will be playing US Open qualifying this week so can't play here.

I guess it depends on when US Open qualifying starts, and how far it is from New Haven to Flushing Meadows. If qualifying doesn't start until Tuesday or Wednesday like the French Open, then it may be worth trying to qualify, as you will probably be able to play a round before you have to go to the US Open, but if it is before then, then it may not be worth it.
I suppose they have to weigh up whether they think they will qualify for the US Open or not, and whether they think they have a better chance of getting the ranking points here instead
And I'm sure Boggo played Sydney qualies the week before the Aussie Open, and then the Aussie Open qualies, so it can be done...
Don't actually think any of the Brits will attempt this (maybe Auckland), but it may be worth them thinking about
This is from his website. I really wanted him to have a great Summer....the shame is that he is not playing badly. Just needs a couple of wins and for his body to be well....might be a bridge too far though, but I really really hope.
Kuznetsov won 6-1, 6-3....been a really disappointing couple of months for Bloomers singles-wise...after that great performance against Hewitt I thought he'd be able to push on and go deep in several of these challengers. Kuznetsov's a player on the up and has had good results in the last couple of months, winning a round at Queens and making quarters of Aptos and Binghampton but I thought it'd be closer
Not looking good for US Open qualies....hopefully Richard can find some form indoors in the next 3 months...not much to defend in September so hopefully he can capitalise as October's a big month with pts from winning a 15K and making a 50K semis from last yr
Just looked at the stats and it appears the match was closer than the score suggests....
Richard hit 5 aces but 6 dfs....59% 1st serves in (that needs to be a bit higher for him on outdoor hard)....he won 70% of 1st serve pts but telling only 29% on his 2nd serve
The two big stats though are.....Richard took 0/8 break pts while Kuznetsov took 4/7.....case of missed opportunities it seems
Kuznetsov only made 46% of 1st serves, won 88% pts when he got it in....57% of pts on his 2nd serve
Anyway, Kuznetsov now looks likely to face super-Mario so he ain't gonna last much longer in this tourney !
