Hi Daniel,
As you know we really dont slag off juniors here. Yes there was bit of a debate based on peoples perceptions. People can be wrong. You and the other lads have OUR full support and wish all of you a top 100 future or better.
Congrats to you over the last few weeks. Getting a few wins always helps.
I tried to grab a word with you at the DC tie in Birmingham. I was there as press covering the event for bt.net. You had to leave right after it finished so I missed you. Would be good if we could have a chat sometime if that were possible...something that we could publish on bt.net. PM me anytime.
This is a good forum which supports you all....please dont be put off. We wish you the best and please keep posting and reading the site.

Evski
The main reason for my addiction to this board (the only board of any sort I regularly visit) is the wide variety of contributors with their differing points of view. Some are clearly better informed than others, but (very) few are deliberately malicious.
I was lucky enough to see your first Futures match on a hot summer's day in Nottingham. I remember because although Lee Childs clearly had more power, you refused to give in and were very clearly ticked off when you lost (4&5?). It actually stuck with me and I have followed your progress with interest ever since.
I would never describe myself as an Tennis expert, never having had the chance to play at any serious level myself. I only occasionally get the opportunity to watch live tennis, usually at Nottingham or Shrewsbury. However I do know other sports and I believe I can tell when people are up for a match or just going through the motions. By that I do not mean they are not trying but are not, as some people might say, 'in the Zone'.
I also believe that if you get the process right the results will naturally follow. The only problem is making sure that it is the right process for that individual player. Some people naturally explode (Andy?) while others (Tim?) naturally bottle it up. That is what make the debrief so important. It has to be appropriate.
I have to admit to being 50+, and for so long great British junior talents have failed to materialise. So sometimes it is easier to be cynical rather than being disappointed. This is clearly grossly unfair on your generation of players.
Just as the sweeping criticism after Wimbledon was unfair on some individuals, especially those who have not yet had a chance to prove themselves, we cannot yet assume everything has been addressed.
Some people take criticism and use it for extra motivation, while others let affect their self belief. Some sportsmen (not just tennis players) are scared to give 100% because it might not be enough and they would not have any excuses left.
Please contribute at often as you can. Educate us fans. Tell us how it is, warts and all. Believe me people here want you to succeed. It is not much fun if all the Brits are knocked out on a Monday or Tuesday.
What more can I say? The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Please along with your colleagues make the next few years sweeter than the past.

I cant be the only one that sees this as part of the problem? There is no way I am going to bully young Mr Evans, as he states, he is a junior making his way in the world. But at the same time the above shouts out as missing the point.
Its hard to judge by watching from afar, we dont know whats going on. Yet people attending tournaments remark that players seem to be at a more of a social event than what they expected to see. Thats how it looks, a concern yet I am sure we are all willing to be reassured. Instead we are treated to a "its not fair you picking on us, we all try really hard" type response. The point is, that ALL parties.....including the players (the young ones as well) have to take a share of responsibilities. So do the coaches, so do the LTA and so on. Assoon as one party takes the view that the the others should do more.....but not them, it breaks down.
I have been at junior local tournaments and heard the parents comments of how things should be reagrding tournaments, court time, funding etc etc. This type of complaining of outside entities can go right through to the pro game. The "culture of blame" we heard about this year.
The comments raised on here were valid yet evski dosen't want to accept any part of them and Drew rushes a "done worry we'll support you no matter what" type response. I want Dan to do well, this year, next, at Futures, Chalengers, main tour, Davis Cup.....the full works. I also want to see dan saying "I'm young, not there yet but I'll work hard and get better" and supporters looking for the same thing.
Why is asking for improvement or mentioning an area you dont like a crime, why is that so slated on here? How do we expect to improve as a nation with this attitude?
I am being hard on you? Yes I am. Will I get rounded on here by others for this? Yes I will. Yet believe me when I say I want to see you rise for the very top and enjoy a long and rewarding career. I worry that not accepting responsibility, being reassured that everything you do is OK no mtter what, is not the way I believe you'll achieve that.

I have to say I agree with Dan Evo, how can you slate him for his attitude when to be honest you have no idea what is going on in his head or any other of the top juniors come to mention it. You do not get to this level with out having a good work rate & attitude, it's moving on from this level that attitudes & work rate need to be expectional. Regarding the coaches just feeding positives - again that is a totally uneducated comment - all the coaches that our top coaches are working with, as well as the players, know they are a work in progress, the job is not nearly finished & they know they must continue to grow as players & improve each & every day. Within this I do not see this as a "blame culture" he is purely stating a fact that you or any one else on here are not in a position to critise him or ant other player, yes give opinions & thoughts on where improvements can be made but do not try & knock players..it's a negative attitude that every one involved in British tennis is tying to erase. There are bloody good players in Britain with great coaches working with them, leave these experts to do their job & help these players grow, into players of real class on the world stage & not having to worry about mindless critics. Regarding the comment on Daniels choice of grammer, for all you know he may have learning difficulties, as far as I am aware he does not but you have no right to make those sorts of comments about any body, let alone a 17 year old boy & to be honest if I was in charge of this site I would ban you for such an ignorant comment, let us not forget this site is about British tennis & tennis only! Evo ignore these mindless comments, keep working hard, look for daily improvements & focus on yourself & no one else!!

Its Not Who You Know But What You Know.........Or Is It???
Ultimately, to get to the top, you have to accept constructive criticism as well as praise. Indeed, I think that criticism can be more important than praise, and you can learn a lot more from it.
On this forum, the juniors are given far more exposure than literally anywhere else on the internet. We follow them throughout the world, giving them our support even at some of the most obscure tournaments. You're not going to find this level of support anywhere else.
But where one gives support, one inevitably may question some aspects of the players from time to time, That's the nature of a forum! So it really is a bit rich to be annoyed at "slating the juniors", when we are the only place to discuss British juniors in the first place, with 99% of comments being positive.
If the comments were directed at me, I would undoubtedly be annoyed at first. But then just maybe I would like to think I have the maturity to think "hold on, maybe the perception is different from the outside, and maybe they do have a point". Remember perception is reality. And in that position I may even potentially take on board what people say and change things in the future, which I have done in my field of work.
Evski, I wish you luck in the rest of your career and really do hope that you can make it as a professional tennis player. However it certaintly does not help attacking those who are your biggest supporters.
Stircrazy, that post was offensive (in my opinion) and I deleted it. I am very much honoured that Dan posts here and he may do it in whatever way he feels.
And Dan, you have got some great fans out here and we all don't slag you off. I, for one, have followed every tournament you've played since I first heard of you and at times have stayed up all night to know the scores of your matches.
You must remember that most of us are ignorant fans and some comments are bound to be rubbish! Just ignore them and listen to your friends and coaches.

Hi Dan,
Sorry about the message, I didnt mean to cause offence. I was unable to see yourself play so I was going off Cox and Dyce. These guys I thought were extremely talented and played very well. What I meant by the comments was that the coach who was with you didnt appear to lend much advice. Clearly I was incorrect as you have said he spoke to you all after the game and leant tips on how to improve. Sorry for this.
I dont want you thinking mate that we arent behind the juniors as personally I think we need more of you guys coming through. I was really encouraged by the performances by Graeme and Dan and hope they can take their game further. My comment was made on opinion at the time. Like said in comment, looked like you guys had great team spirit.
Apologies if the comment was taken out of context as I and many members of the board are fully behind the juniors and we really want to see you guys climb the rankings and tournaments. Good luck for the future pal
Shhh I have edited part of your post as it was offensive in my opinion. we value your opinion and views on heard but no need to go on about Dan's choice of grammar. text abbreviations on forums is quite common for all ages and can be easier especially if ur using a laptop.

OK Sheddie, fair call. I enjoy the debate and anything that can be taken as offensive should not be part of it.
I think its clear from todays comments that people support Dan 100% and hopefully he'll be giving us greater cause to as the months and years go by. Certainly no offence intended evski, we call things as they appear. If we're wrong, I am sure we're all happy to corrected.
"The comments raised on here were valid yet evski dosen't want to accept any part of them and Drew rushes a "done worry we'll support you no matter what" type response...."
Oh dear what an example of commenting on a post..and getting it wrong. People can get things wrong and people do have perpeptions based on their own expieriences. Thats all I said. Didnt say Dan was right or wrong. Just trying as always to keep people on their feet.
