Article On Smethurst.

Got a nice piece on Dan on someone's blog -

http://blogs.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ianwylie/2007/07/wimbledons_rising_stars.html

It's good news that he's going to Portugal to play some ITFs. There are two G4s on clay and a G3 on hard that he can do.

Since this is the Dan Smethurst articles thread (even if there hasn't been one posted here for nearly 7 years) - one in the Times today, if you have access:

"Dan Smethurst's surge continues as he becomes unlikely new role model"

Who is going to be next to leave the NTC and succeed. It seems a common trend.

May I suggest Tara goes her separate ways.....

Had a long chat with Dans father today who said he worked very  hard over exmas , and has reinvested prize money into quality coaches at nottingham and it's paid off . Deserves a WC singles wimbie in my opinion

I'd second that. (And a break with Jeremy B, if she's still working with him).

Tara is coached by Jane O'Donoghue mainly.

Haven't read the article, but OEM take a bow, great to see tennis journos in this country actually write about a positive story.
Big changes off the court may only lead to small changes on the court, but in a sport of fine margins, thats sometimes all it takes to make a big breakthrough.

I wonder if Nottingham is now the in place to train. Gosling did have that reputation.

Dan S, Evo are the two big names, but I think Liam and Luke now train there plus George Morgan and some good juniors like Joe Woolley and Marcus Walters.

The one think Nottingham and Gosling have in common is they have a top class player training there which will only help the others around them - Evo and the French lad at Gosling.

Well worth it, Phil (I bought the print edition yesterday & have just read it).  OEM's doing quite well on this front at the moment, as witness his article last week on Jonny O'Mara (I posted the link at the time.  Now on page two).

Who IS left at the NTC?  Pippa Horn went off to Texas last year, Lana Rush is off to Florida this summer, Katy Dunne and Harriet Dart have moved to Northwood, all the boys mentioned by Paulisi gone to Nottingham.
