thats rather unlucky for lucy but it looks like she put up a good fight. she is out there for two more weeks so hopefully she can get some good matches in.
i think many are surprised when they come up against low ranked chineese thai exc. their overall standard has improved alot recently

Lucy was seeded 3rd but got beaten 6-3, 6-0 by Mulsap cry.gif

I really wonder how players like Lucy afford to stay for a month in Thailand when they aren't making main draws !

tennisbrain makes a really good point about the chinese and thai players having a lot more strength in depth now. I think we'll really start to see that in the rankings soon.

Do you think it's possible that their could be a Chinese invasion of the womens elite, in a similar way to the Russian one which started a few years ago ? Na Li has the potential to make the top 10 in the future

It's surprising that there aren't more Chinese players doing well in the mens game

well thailand is pretty very cheap.
jess jackson signed in so she didnt even get in and she is out there that is worse!!
the flights woulod be expensive but its all good experience. hotels in england are pretty expensive and going to europe would be far more money draining than thailand. i know i have travelled.
a good hotel out there are bout 10 pound a night

Jess won two matches to qualify for this Bangkok 10K, beat two top 1000 players....Lucy 2 and 1 and a Korean Cho-Won Lee 6-3, 7-6. Jess was top 1000 in May 2006 but she's now lost her ranking as she's been out injured. I saw her in Sutton and was v impressed, she'll be top 1000 again quite quickly I'm sure. Does she have to get pts in 3 tourneys now b4 she can get her ranking back

Really nice rd1 draw, 17 year old Uzbek ranked 886

these three 10k have been so strong its a joke!!! they are nearly as strong as some 25k considering lucy warburton is seed in top 10 main draw in ilkley next week and she hasnt made direct entry into main draw once out here, i think they will be glad to be back on home soil
