GB F11 - Felixstowe - Week 28 Of 2007.

What a win for Evans against a player ranked over a 1000 places above him! clap.gif His first main draw win in a men's tournament.

Evans and Milton face off now, which is a good draw for both. I think that I want Evans to win that, although I won't exactly cry if Milton takes it.

Good luck to Dyce today. Looks like he's playing very well.

Shame about Ward's and Smethurst's results but they both had tough draws. Ghedin isn't a clay courter even though he is from Italy and Coelho is far above Smethurst's current level.

Delighted for Dan, tho' I had a suspicion he might win that.

If he is the hot prospect that we are led to believe he might be, then we should be expecting him by the age of 17 to be picking up some futures wins, shouldnt we?

How does his progress compare with other players of a similar age Arka, who went on to have a big future?

Most players who crack the top 100 early (by the time they are 21 or 22, that is) are good enough to win matches against Futures opposition when they are 17. But that's not the end of it as those who work hard enough can get there even if they don't make a breakthrough before they are 18.

Obviously it would be daft to suggest that Evans is a cert for it, but his record at this stage of his career is as good as most people who went on to become Tour regulars.

Last year he was underperforming, in my opinion, given the amount of talent he has. He would give the top players a good match almost always (took a set off Auckland and lost by decent scorelines to Childs twice) but would lose matches where he had a chance. This year he seems far more mature - he has had three or four impressive wins in the last two months and he can get another tomorrow if he plays properly.

Cox did all right considering that he was playing a top 200 guy who likes playing on grass.

Good to see Dyce getting another point. He overcame a rankings gap of 999 places!

Tight squeeze for Josh, glad to see him get through, he needs to get some wins under his belt, lets hope this is the start of a decent run for him.

Delighted for Dyce, and glad to see Kasiri get through, not having a bad year all in all.

It is indeed, Dan next plays the winner of the Josh-Marx match, so a guaranteed semi finalist if Josh comes through.

Thanks Kid. Nice on Josh: now to keep it up and defend last year's title.
