Jane O'Donoghue retires

The current edition of BritishTennis magazine confirms that Jane retired in May. Jane achieved a career high inside 200, had Fed Cup wins in singles and doubles, victories at Wimbledon in consecutive years plus a spirited performance against Venus. Good luck to her for the future.

I was saddened by this news. She has had a few patches of real success but has had real low spots where her form seemed to desert her. In 2007 Jane had a good run in 10Ks in Britain but I guess it never looked likely that she would recapture her form from 2004.

- 2nd round Wimbledon 2004 and 2005 (defeating Lee-Waters and Groenefeld)
- 2nd round Birmingham 2003 (defeating Baltacha)
- Won 10K Bournemouth 2002, 10K Hatfield 2002, 10K Jersey 2007
- Runner Up 10K Bath 2000, 10K Edinburgh 2003, 10K Wrexham 2006
- 6 ITF Circuit doubles titles

I hope she continues to be involved in tennis and who knows maybe she'll do an Amanda Keen and have a revival...

That is sad news.  I always liked her after seeing her play Venus on TV over here.  I thought she would do far more than she did, but hopefully she will remember her days on tour and the places she has seen with a great deal of fondness.  I wish her nothing but the best!
