ATP - The Nottingham Open

Del Potro looked great on grass against johansson and even against nadal up till 4-4 in the first set he was looking good but just froze after that.

I cant see baker getting past him to be honest.

I think Del Potro isn't such a bad draw against Jamie so long as Jamie plays his best and uses every ounce of confidence he's gained over the last week or so. Josh's draw is pretty good as well. i have high hopes for all the Brits.

Poor coverage from Sky this week really. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are live and then Saturday is just highlights at 7PM. No coverage of first round Monday and Tuesday whatsoever.

Why do people everywhere think that JMDP has a big serve? confused.gif

I've seen just two full matches of his (against Moya and the one against Nadal at Roland Garros) and never thought that. At times when he was playing Nadal, his serve seemed his biggest weakness.

Yeah, he can place them well every now and then because of his height, but it's not massive by any counts. I've never seen Baker play, but I wouldn't be surprised if his serve turned out to be better than JMDP's.

Yes, I have read on other boards that despite his height Del Potro's serve is not particularly good. The rest of his game is, though, when he comes up to the net his wingspan is impressive!

His movement on grass was a little bit suspect at Queens so I hope Jamie can take advantage of that.

thats a great win by baker, better than the peya win i think, as guccione's game is well suited to the green stuff!

is funny how baker seems to look out of his depth at challengers for a couple of months in a row, then looks comfortable in atp tour events! he really seems to raise his game well against better players, but hopefully he can translate this form week in week out.

Who is this skupski? I've never heard of him!

His doing his best to get his name heard now and his just levelled things up winning the breaker 7-3!

Dont know if I'm saying stuff that's already been said, but he had a decent Junior track record but felt he wasnt getting any support from the LTA so he went away to College in the States, I understand he had a good college career.

His dad runs the Liverpool tournament, and so he gets a Wc into that, and i think he did well last week, he is now planning to go back on tour and judging by this week, he wont be without ranking points for very long.

Good on you Skupster, keep it going.

I thought the Liverpool tournament was run by some Norwegian dude? That's how he managed to swing the whole Borg thing? Perhaps the Skupski brothers' Dad is his second in command?

i am sorry but i really must complain. i am listening to the radio commentators and they just dont seem to know how you are ment to commentate on tennis matches!

i have no idea if any of the players are looking good, nor who their spsonsers are, why most of the time is taken up telling me what kind of shot is being played. thats boring. i havent heard a single 'wow thats amazing' or anything else along those lines yet.
Once again the bbc get it wrong. long live Ken.

We should start a petition to get ken to commentate for Wimbledon!

Haha, hey does anyone think it would be a good idea to have a "monday livescore thread". We have Eastbourne, Notts and Wimbly qualies all on today. Might be good to keep it all together in one thread, firstly so we don't have to keep trawling around different threads and secondly I think if people want to read through live scores it might be better for them to see how the day unfolded instead of reading matches individually. Just a thought. Tell me if I'm talking rubbish.

I agree Count. I'm listening now. I much prefer "good serve, good return, good shots. let's just let it play out.............

...........
