Alex has still to make up his mind on what to do after Newport....he said that if he made the main draw cuts for Los Angeles and Indianapolis then he'd definately play those two followed by Washington as some challengers before USO qualies....however, if he didn't make the cuts (and he hasn't), he might consider playing the grass court challengers over here instead
I think tho that it's most likely that he'll stay in the States after Newport
He has a good chance of making the cut of LA and an outside chance of making the cut for this. He will surely get a direct entry into Washington, which is a 48 player event.
This was a 48 player event till last year. Had it remained so, Bloomers would have had a good chance of making the cut. I guess that he'll have to do the 50K in Lexington instead.
When does the US Open list come out? Just wondering about Alex's chances of making it as a DE. There's 8 wildcards and 8 qulifiers right so that means everyone ranked up to 112 should get in even before withdrawals, and Alex will be around there come Monday....

Next week (Queen's points added), we get Washington lists. Then we get Montreal. Three weeks from now, we get Cincinnati. Four weeks from now (Wimbly points added), we get New Haven. Five weeks from now (Newport points added), we get US Open lists.
So he needs to be well within the top100 following Wimbers as he's defending Newport quarters, either that or he needs to be just in and manage to defend (or improve) his Newport points. It's possible....
Thanks Arka by the way.

think there is a reasonable chance of him making MD at US open - but he'll need to get a few more wins on grass first. a good draw at newport could see him reach at least the semis i think - should have made them last yr and he's better now!

I believe the list is based on the rankings after Newport. There are actually 16 qualifiers plus 8 WCs, leaving 104 direct entry places, so the initial cut (depending on the number of players with protected rankings) is usually about 100.
Over the last three years, initial and final cuts for the USO have been:
2006: 101 initially, 107 after w/ds 2005: 100 initially, 101 after w/ds 2004: 102 initially, 106 after w/ds

hmm, so he really needs to pick up a few wins at each of the events he plays to be safe? although a couple at notts and a couple at newport woudl do the trick. 2 wins a wimby wuld probably do it on its own.
maybe he should have tried the dublin challenger, easy points up for grabs for boggo if he went there you'd guess.

Thanks for clearing it up Steven. I hadn't realised there were that many qualifiers. So basically Alex needs to be in the top100. and he should manage it with a couple of wins at Notts and Wimbers. the difficultly will be defending the points at Newport but I see no reason why he can't do that.
