Andy's latest injury

Apologies if I'm breaking any unwritten board rule by starting a topic on this particular subject, but it didn't seem to fit in with any of the existing ones - & no doubt one of the old hands will set me back on the straight & narrow if I am! wink

For anybody who doesn't get The Sunday Times, Barry Flatman's article, which is already provoking expert comment...

Hi stircrazy...thats what the 'start a new topic' icon is all about....thats for the link....and the only un-written rule on this board is "ALL NEW MEMBERS MUST POST LOTS AND OFTEN" smile.gif

If you dont break 100 posts by the end of the month then I will set 'john' on you LOL !!!

Sky Sports News, on the news ticker:

Andy Murray has denied reports he has withdrawn from French Open. Says he is yet to make his mind up.

Here's hoping he doesn't do anything silly to jeopardise his long-term health just for the dubious honour of playing a match or two at Roland Garros!  I'd far rather he concentrated on being fully fit for an extended Wimbledon campaign...

I'm sure Andy will do the sensible thing with this injury. Thanks for finding the article Stircrazy, really interesting to get a technical point of view.

Thanks for the article Stircrazy, it's a great read thumbsup.gif Really interesting to get that technical viewpoint, a little worrying too, looks like Andy's wrist could be a bit of a problem over the next decade as there's already a weakness there now.

Stircrazy, feel free to post as much as (and whatever) you want, it's great to have you on the site...there are no "unwritten rules" on here or any rules as a matter of fact, lol...cause I'm a teenage rebel and I don't like them ! biggrin.gif So yeah, it's pretty much anything goes

I hope we appear a friendly bunch, most of the new members slot in quite easily...everyone seems to get on, haven't really had any arguments on here..just a bit of banter every now and then biggrin.gif

Unless Andy was over-reacting when the injury occured it looked pretty bad - he would be foolish to play too soon, but I guess he will be getting expert advice on that - lets hope he listens to it!

Andy was relieved he hadn't broken anything, but at least with a fracture after the healing process the bone is stronger than it was before, but once a tendon is damaged it becomes much less elastic & will be more liable to strains & sprains in the future.

(I know the following is refering to 'tennis elbow' but it's much the same thing 'tennis wrist'!.)
"Tendon damage can occur in a single incident. More commonly, it develops after overusing the affected arm.

Overuse causes tiny tears in the tendon. If the arm is not sufficiently rested after activity, the injury is likely to become worse, with a more serious tear or even rupture of the tendon."

I read the article yesterday and found it interesting and informative. I only hope Minto is careful over the decision he makes. It's no use him rushing back too soon, he's 20, he's got plenty of time ahead and needs to make sure he's not going to regret any judgement he makes now. Heaven forbid, he ends up with some of the injuries the other players mentioned suffered from in their careers. Rather a few months out now than a promising career curtailed before it's had a chance to blossom. I wonder if he will consider playing with a lighter racket, possibly not as it might need too much of an adjustment to his technique and he's been using this weight for a considerable time. D-day today.

This has nothing to do with tennis but I'm finding the only way I can post is via the 'quick reply' button. I keep getting a Runtime error message if I try to use the 'reply' or 'quote' function. Can anyone help or is it a case of a rubbish and old computer?

Hmm - at aguess, you're not running the latest version of internet explorer or firefox - may be worth downloading an update.

Same here - only way I can post is with firefox.

Also I never get the banner across the top with firefox, Opera or IE6, I guess it comes from an adware site and is filtered out by AVG
