He seems to be the head tennis coach at the Sheffield Hallam club (wasn't that Jonny Marray and/or Dave Sherwood's original club?) ... either that or it's his teenage son and the ITF haven't cottoned on yet! Then again, he'd need an IPIN to play, for which I guess he'd have had to give his DoB, so maybe it is the 'old' Gary Henderson, who once lost a Satellite Final to Tigger.

If Ross (992) can beat Fabrice Martin (769) which is a tall order then Nick Lindahl has withdrawn and R2 looks a littlle less intimidating.
Also, on Ross Connoly's ITF profile his coach is listed as a certain Gary Henderson! Seeing his coach come through qualifying must have made Ross confident. I hope!

Sadly, it wasn't to be, Connolly losing 6-7(6) 4-6 to Martin (seems to have put up a bit of a fight, though!) & Henderson 1-6 2-6 to Romero (tame defeat! ), so that's the end of Brit interest in Mexico...
R1: Ross Connolly WR 1033 lost to (Q) Fabrice Martin (FRA) WR 773 by 7-6(6) 6-4 R1: (Q) Gary Henderson UNR lost to (5) Victor Romero (MEX) WR 433 by 1 & 2
Sad to see Ross losing, particularly since the no. 1 seed he might have had to face in R2 withdrew and he would have faced an unranked WC had he got there. His coach ended up a long way off getting his first ranking point in about a decade.
Edit: snap! (we were about 30 seconds apart!)

I mean, suppose you are a coach and travelling to a country with your player. You are bored, so what better thing to kill time than play some qualies?
Coaches do play a bit. Our very own Morgan's coach, Francisco Fogues, attempted qualies in Rimini last year (where Morgan qualified). Plus quite a few play doubles - Roger Rasheed played with Hewitt on more than one occasion and Pavel Vizner is regular partner for Dlouhy.
