I guess the thing about Tara is she has managed what she has achieved younger than other British players for sometime. Everyone knows that there is every possibility she won't make it, but there is the feeling she has the promise she could make it into the top 100, something we don't often feel.
-At 14, she rarely fails to achieve a ranking point in a senior tournament-albeit with very careful picking of her tournaments. Yes, she isn't winning those 10Ks yet, but how many of our juniors struggle to qualify regularly?
-She also has a very solid performance level in junior tournaments, being very highly ranked for her age. Not the best in her class in the world, but up there with a chance.
Only time will tell, but of her age group, she is one of the most promising we've had for sometime.
Unfortunately she has a tougher match next. Duarte is just 17 and was ranked inside the top 50 of Juniors. Tara at her best can beat such players, though.
This win was very impressive (although not a surprise). I would like to see her attempt one or two 25Ks in Britain - will be a great experience for her. And they should take her to the next Fed Cup like they did with Evans.
They are in different halves of the draw, so it is possible. Not likely, though, I think...
Tara should be just inside the top 1000 with this QF place on 6 ranking points. It was a very strong win for a 14 year old, but she may need to be better today to progress!
