Pick 'Em Hamburg - Practice Week

Steven (along with his trusty assistant Bethan!!) are having a break from running the official Pick 'Em tournament this week.

However, as there are a number of people on both this board and AM.com who enjoy the game so much, I have offered to run the competition, using Steven's excellent excel template, as a 'practice' tournament (we are not publicising the tournament as a BT vs AM competition so it won't be counted towards the overall league table, but will of course still have bragging rights attached!!).

If you are interested in entering this competition please either PM me or send me an email (guycathro@hotmail.com) and I'll send the excel entry sheet.

HOW TO ENTER - DEADLINE Mon 14 May @ 10.00 am UK time
IF YOU HAVE MICROSOFT EXCEL
1. Send me a PM, or email me (guycathro@hotmail.com) and I'll send an entry sheet
2. When offered the option to Open it or Save it, click Save
3. Change the filename to include your name, but make sure you keep the .xls at the end.
e.g. Add your name at the end of the filename
4. Make sure you know where you are saving the file to so you can find it afterwards!
5. Open the file in Excel and read the instructions at the top carefully
N.B. You pick the result of every match in every round now, before the main draw
6. Type your name then make your picks.
N.B. You can make your picks in any order and leave out any hard ones until later.
7. Make sure the number of picks you have left as shown in the top section is 0
8. Save the sheet and start an email to the email address shown in the top section of the sheet.
9. Attach the sheet to that email and send off your entry. Good luck!

I was going to let this one go, but I really shouldn't, because it doesn't really work like that. I mean, yes, I set up the spreadsheets in the first place and yes, that's a big job (that will still be ongoing, at least until the FO), but it's going to become a smaller part of the job for each new tournament as I gradually get them into a form I'm happy with.

During the tournaments themselves, we share the work and what Bethan does is at least as important as what I do - indeed, during Rome, she's done far more than me, especially when you take into account that she was the one who got all the entries into the Excel file in the first place.

Added to that, she's intelligent, exceptionally competent and great fun to work with, which makes my life a lot easier during these competitions, so she's a big part of the reason why these competitions have been successful. biggrin

I'm not suggesting you were implying that any of this wasn't the case, I just wanted to set the record straight in case anyone was getting the wrong impression. I'm not Batman, and she's definitely not Robin! wink

Well, thanks to all of you is all I can say. Don't know where you all find the time but we're very grateful and it makes the tournaments much more fun, especially when interest in our players has finished.

Congrats Steven on being individual winner this time. Well deserved. Just hope I can improve as I'm getting worse with each competition. Just hope Rafa wins today so I can overtake Roberta.

I'm definately in smile.gif

and as Goldfish says, big thanks to steven and bethan for running these comps...you guys are simply amazing with the number of entries with have and the no of quality updates you do ! Makes following the big tourneys much more fun.

having tried and miserably failed to do Bethan's job for a couple of days of Miami I can appreciate how tricky it actually is !!!
