Shame about Bally's loss - if only they'd have given her a SE like she deserved - or you have to get to the final to get one at 25K level? At least Sarah has managed to pick up a win here so hopefully that means her back problems aren't as serious as they could have been and that her potentially expensive flight was at least worth something.
Bally lost 6-3, 6-2 to Ji-A Lee...really, really unlucky draw...she would have cruised past anyone else in the qualies. However, although Lee is ranked 640, she also made the semis last week !!
I've no idea why she didn't get a SE, that's crazy...I guess it's because the qualies started on Sunday so there was time for her to get to Gimcheon. Players really should be guaranteed an SE if they make the semis of a tourney. Even if you made the final and won the tournament, I don't think you'd get an SE if there was enough time to get to the next tourney for qualies.
Sarah won her rd1 match 6-2, 6-4 against an Indonesian girl. Hopefully that means the back is responding to chiropractic therapy...she was barely able to serve last week, I really felt for her after travelling all that way. Some of that therapy she wrote about sounded decidely dodgy but hey if it worked !!! Big test will probably come in the next round...I guess that in order to make quarters she'll have to be able to play full out
I really felt for her after travelling all that way.
Me too, it reminds me of Karen Paterson's situation in Australia last autumn when she was stuck out there unable to play. Still it looks as if things have turned out better for Sarah - though I hope she doesn't aggravate any injuries by forcing herself to play
