Naomi has what a lot of Brits seem to lack at this level which is the ability to cope with a setback and find a way to get into the ascendency again during a match!
Naomi told me last night "I was playing smart tennis with margins and using the deep rallying ball well which gave me the lead but when I was 4-2 up in the 2nd I went for too much and started overhitting and she took advantage to win the set. Luckily I got a good start in the 3rd and then ran away with it."
Naomi now plays Olga Govortsova [6] at 9am Florida time.
First meeting for both players and have not played in the juniors either. Govortsova is from Blearus and is 17 years old and ranked 172!!!! Coached by John Roddick!(Is that Andy's brother?) Already won 2 titles this year! (25k Jackson, Clay and 25k Minsk, Carpet) and lost in another final (50k St Paul). Going to be tough for Naomi since Olga reached the semis in Charlottesville last week, so will be comfortable on the gree clay. In the 1st round, she beat an American, 6-0 6-1.
the result should be in by now. with WTaworld shutdown, i emailed the tournament director about the Cavaday's result, i let you know in the next couple of hours. however, if the result is posted before then, thanks
Looks like she was struggling with the early morning start and gradually pick her game up through the second set. Good try Naomi!
LOL love it how people try to figure things out going only by the results and often come up with the most bizarre explanation going by nothing but a few numbers.

don't think the early morning start is a factor at all....Naomi told me that she's a morning person, has had several morning matches this week...she prepares for a 9am start by getting up at 6.30 and has a 30 min warm-up around 8.
Yeah, that's what I mean. I really didn't think Naomi was the type to be affected by early mornings. Also, as far as I'm aware both players started the match at the same time. Maybe Gortosova was affected by the early morning and would have otherwise won more easily.
Also where's the evidence that she GRADUALLY got her game together in second. As far as we know, she was 6-0 up in 2nd set before throwing it away!

i apologise for over-exaggerating the situation! its my opinion, and i didn't know that noami had early morning starts, that why i thought she may have been struggling IMO.
I don't think you can really say she struggled. Played against a girl same age as her but ranked quite a bit higher. Certainly wasn't expected to win the match so I don't think there's any reason to search for why she "struggled". She lost, simple. Beaten by a player ahead of her at the moment, certainly on this surface.
