Week 18 - Womens ITF 25K - Antalya

Stunning win for Anna Smith, best win of her career by some margin....really shows the improvement she's made in the past 6 months as Pichet beat her 4 and 1 in the autumn. This is been a breakthrough year for her, first 10K final overseas and she's starting to win matches in 25Ks. I was really impressed when I saw her in Sutton, I think she can go far...top 200 prospect for sure.

Anna's now up against German qualifier Ria Doernemann. The 20 year old is ranked 554, her best results this year came in Dubai at the beginning of April where she made a 10K semi. She beat Anna Fitzpatrick in straight sets indoors in March so it could be tricky for Anna but on her current form she'll be favourite to win.

Good to see Anne winning again, another winnable match today against a Latvian teenager.

Shocker for Amanda Keen though...whats happened to her, these losses aren't even close and on hard too ! Worrying with those Monzon pts coming off soon

Anne K needs a good week here.
Her ranking keeps going down a few places each week which is a pity when you think that she has been up to the top 130.

If she wants to crack the top 100 then something needs to change because at present I have a horrid feeling that she could drop out of the top 200 soon if she does not start winning.

So come on Anne. Look at Boggo and there you see the blunt reality. Winning matches and winning some 25k's and 50k's etc are what takes your ranking back up. She is capable of so much more.

Also great win for Anne S.

Anne through to quarter finals then! w00t.gif Old adversary Ipek Senoglu up next. Ipek's ranking is down to 550 and she needed a wildcard here, but she's had an excellent win against Julie Coin...

Pity for Anna. Hopefully it was just a point here or there and she's not too downcast!

Special K won her QF match:

Anne KEOTHAVONG (GBR) (3) d. Ipek SENOGLU (TUR) 57 62 61

Sadly Amanda Keen retired during the doubles so she and Anne lost:

KALASHNIKOVA (GEO) / KVATSABAIA (GEO) d. KEEN (GBR) / KEOTHAVONG (GBR) 16 76(5) ret.

Well, if Amanda's nursing an injury that could explain her bizarre loss the other day. As Arka says, hope it's nothing serious.

clap.gif to Anne K. Thanks for posting the result and welcome Pockytastic.

If only they'd won that tie break they'd at least have got the poits for winning!

Anne K in to semis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif

It will be Angelique Kerber in the semis. Kerber has been rising fast and has now reached 112. Probably set to break the top 100 by winning this tournament.

If Anne beats Kerber it will have been a brilliant performance.

I predict an easy Kerber win but well done Anne for reaching the semis and doing what her seeding asked of her so far!

Good luck vs Kerber Anne

welcome to the forum Alastair smile.gif

Great win for Anne in the quarters...her second win over Senoglu this year (she beat her 6-4, 7-6 in the USA)..will this move her back up the rankings a bit ?

Anne plays Kerber today. 19 year old Kerber is ranked 113 and has reached 4 challenger finals this year (including a 50K title in Canada). She's faced one British player so far in 2007, Georgie Stoop took a set off her in Spain (Kerber went on to reach the final). Kerber and Anne have played twice before, the German won 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 outdoors in 2005 and again 6-4, 6-0 in Glasgow last autumn. However, Anne gained her revenge a month later, winning 6-4, 7-5 in the final of Prevor on fast indoor carpet in the Czech Republic.

According to wtaworld Anne lost in straight sets to Kerber - the poster who seems to have been at the match described Anne as having hit a lot of unforced errors cry.gif

Yeah disappointing result....Anne making too many ues atm to trouble players like Kerber, strange as her game is usually based around being very solid from the back of the court....she's been very up and down this year, maybe trying to change something in her game ?
