laughing.gif very good Count. I'm glad to see the site is being read (and used) by journalists, it certainly deserves it.

Wow !

For a long time, he played a large number of sats and futures on clay in far off places even when he was ranked 200-350, for some reason he never played that many challengers...used to go from ATP qualies to sats !!

An interesting story...during a trip to Jamaica for several sats, Mackin was drawn to face Dave Sherwood. It was an LTA squad trip with several travelling coaches, Sherwood's coach was suggesting the strategy of getting into long baseline rallies with Mackin. Unsurprisingly, Dave thought this was complete rubbish and said so (in not so polite terms) and ended up being chucked out of that squad for verbal abuse I think. He was summoned to an LTA meeting at Queens a few weeks later but the problem was it was at 10am and during that period Dave struggled to get up before 1pm biggrin.gif He overslept and missed the meeting and ended up being expelled from the LTA setup

Perhaps you hit upon the real reason Alan retired - Satellites are discontinued, nowhere to get that quick 'points fix' before the next ATP qualifier!

Rob Robertson of the Herald has blatantly got his info from the article I wrote on britishtennis.net...compare the two, he wouldn't have known otherwise that Mackin had beaten Nadal or that he'd told friends he was tired of the travelling. LOL.
Hopefully he didn't find this bit of his article on bt.net ...

"At Wimbledon last year, he led Marcos Baghdatis, the world No.12 and eventual finalist, by two sets to one before succumbing to cramp and losing in a five-set epic."

... wrong Final! doh
