This is Nigel Sears' blog style report he did for us from yesterday in Bournemouth:

"It was overall a good day for British players with 10 going through. Amanda Elliott (pictured) won 6-4 in the 3rd, she was quite relieved get through, didn't play well at all. She'll really need to up her level to qualify. However, I would hope that she does, this is only a 10K and these are matches she needs to win if she wants to become a good player.

Naomi Broady played very well, winning 6-3, 6-2. Clay isn't her best surface but like Amanda she should be looking to get through, this is a weak field for a 10K. If she maintains the level she played at today, she should qualify.

Jessica Jackson won comfortably 6-3, 6-1 but I didn't really expect her to be tested by Olivia Smith. She has a tough match now against the Italian 2nd seed but Jessica will be in with a good chance against anyone at this level, she's very solid from the back and moves well, has the ability to play well on clay.

All the wildcards have gone to juniors, we're trying to support them by giving them opportunities in these tournaments and hopefully they'll step up and show what they've got. Laura Slater plays an Austrian junior, Klaffner, clay isn't Laura's best surface but it's still a winnable match for her, I'll be interested to see how she does. For Amanda Carreras (who plays a Russian seed), clay is her best surface, she lives in Barcelona and practises daily on clay.

I've seen that Mel South and Natasha Khan have drawn each other in rd1 in Japan ! It's a shame they had to meet so early, will be very close especially on artificial grass. If I had to predict a winner, I'd go for Mel as she's more experienced than Natasha at that level."

think liz thomas will struggleg against the experience of de beer.

beki fong has alot of the years behind her too compared to lucy warburton but that has potential for a 3rd set. think beki should win though

olivia howlett getting a qualifier is rather lucky quite a few of the wc did
