Grrrr....shame about the entry list getting stronger, hopefully there will be enough withdrawals for Smith and Ward to get back in.

Assuming that they do, I'd give wcs to Brewer, Corrie, Evans and Childs. I'm not sure whether Dyce has asked for one (will try and find out), it's a possibility, he may just be concentrating on junior tourneys in Europe but if he has done, he'd surely get one, probably ahead of Childs. I reckon Brewer will get a wc, because he's Scottish and is good on clay....I think he's got it in him to go a lot higher than his current ranking of 800ish, not sure why he hasn't made that breakthrough. He had a great junior career, won Banana Bowl and made the top 15 juniors plus he came close to beating Tsonga on several occasions....the records of the likes of Brewer and Seb Rieschick on the men's tour is a warning to the likes of Panda Bear who's confidently predicting big things for our current crop of juniors, though apart from Cox, none of them have achieved anything on the men's tour yet.

It's good that Kasiri's going to be in Greece, he'll achieve a lot more on the hard courts there than on the clay.

Childs gained two ranking pts on clay in Australia earlier this year, that's why I think he deserves a wc.

It's a tough decision between him and Rice, I picked Childs as he's come through futures qualies twice on clay this year...Rice should have a decent chance of qualifying in Edinburgh, he hasn't qualified for a futures away from grass so it'll be interesting to see whether he can do it on the clay.

I was there for most of the first 2 days and some of the 3rd so caught most of the British players playing.

Fleming looked good against a qualifier.
Jamie Murray through away a good position against Flanagan who just moaned for the whole match.
Mackin was by far the class act in the field.
Ryan Jones (who I don't think is around any more) seemed like a prospect - very muscular but a few too many errors.
Neil Bamford looked excellent - timed the ball superbly, lovely backhand and volleys, hammered Tom Burn who I think was seeded.
Martin Lee destroyed a poor looked Matt Smith.
Chris Eaton looked very lightweight but managed to beat John McGahon.
Morgan Phillips didn't look great.
Brewer just couldn't hit the court.

Can't remember who it was just now but one of the British players, on losing a set i think, threw their raquet clean out of the court in disgust, nearly hitting a group of spectators!! Quality anger, but I remember thinking at the time, how childish.

You are comparing Brewer and Rieschick to Dan, Dan and Dyce? confused.gif


Brewer wasn't doing anything in Futures when he was 15 or 16. He got his first ranking point when he was 17 and 7.

And believe it or not, I saw on the ITF site that Rieschick actually had to wait till six months past his 18th birthday for his first Futures win. omg.gif

I was referring more to Ricey, Tubba, Milton, Barnes etc...I guess those were some of the 15 juniors who you predicted would become Tour players on AM.com ?

Brewer could be comparable to Dyce...though I think Dyce would have a ranking point by now if he hadn't been injured so much and had played more futures. Cox obviously has a much better record than Brewer. Hoping for Evans to start to catch Cox up in the mens rankings this year !

Strange stuff about Rieschick, he seems to have struggled on the men's circuit from the word go...still he did become world junior no 1 when 17 which is no mean feat.

I never said that Ricey, Tubba, Smethurst etc. will be playing Tour tennis. confused.gif Maybe one of them at the most. I was just giving the names of our top Juniors.


Rieschick's world number one spot was no fluke. He didn't earn his points from weak tournaments.

I will 'arrange' a couple of meetings in Edinburgh that week after the draw is made the try and keep an eye of the OOP...must catch up with Ward !

I wonder whether Colin Fleming will ask for a wc here or turn up in qualies ? I don't think he's planning on returning to the tour but he's played a lot of Scottish events like the grand prix, Scottish indoors etc this year....might just play to see if he can still mix it with the pro guys

Thanks for that info....lol @ that player, there have been show quality shows of anger in Scottish tournaments over the past few years. There was Fleming's now infamous rant at the umpire after losing the first set v Childs last year (though to be fair, he got some shocking calls !)  and I remember being told that after losing a tight 3 setter, one player took off his shoe and chucked it across 3 courts biggrin.gif

Morgan Phillips and Chris Eaton have certaintly come on a lot in the past few years, Eaton has bulked up a lot which has definately helped him. I've never seen Bamford play but lots of people who've watched him have been amazed that he's not ranked higher as he's got wonderful timing and a great all-court game, he's always able to match a lot of top 300 players especially indoors.

That pretty much sums up Brewer's problems, on his day he's a great ball striker and can hit opponents off the court...unfortunately there are also just too many days when he can't hit a barn door

Haha, nice find Arka...looks like Dyce is going to play which is great..will be interesting to see how he fares against futures opposition, hopefully Drew and Guy get to watch him

I've emailed Graeme just to confirm this and also to find out whether he's going to play next week in Bournemouth
