Always hard when two players you like play.  I still remember always wanting Tim to beat Greg in straights but that the sets would be close.  It was hard to watch Greg lose as I liked him, but I like Tim even more.  I understand the comment, just tough at times.

I have to admit, unless I like a player, I normally pull for the younger up and coming player.

I guess. And I definitely don't want to see Matt Smith (or for that matter any Brit, even Robert Dee) lose badly at the hands of any of the few players that I know. omfg.gif

Ward's result isn't up anywhere, I am 'fraid.

Marek Semjan (Svk) bt Joshua Goodall (Gbr) 6-1 6-3
Eric Prodon (Fra) bt Daniel Evans (Gbr) 6-3 4-6 6-4
Daniel Cox (Gbr) bt Ludwig Pellerin (Fra) 6-2 4-6 6-4
Sebastian Decoud (Arg) bt Joshua Milton (Gbr) 6-2 6-3
Matthew Smith (Gbr) bt John-Patrick Smith (Aus) 4-6 6-4 6-4
David Rice (Gbr) bt Joshua Miller (Gbr) 6-3 6-4
Andrew Coelho (Aus) bt Edward Allinson (Gbr) 6-4 6-3
Graeme Dyce (Gbr) bt Ben Dunbar (Gbr) 6-4 6-2
Marcus Sarstrand (Swe) bt Konstantinos Kalaitzis (Gbr) 6-1 6-0

I think he pulled out, my oop had Ward crossed out and S Donald written in.

OK - I didn't realise that at the time but somehow 'wishing a British player to lose' sounds much worse than 'Wishing your man to win'   hmm

Without losers there would be no winners in tennis. And that's why all British clashes are always sad.

And now it does appear that Ward withdrew. pray.gif

Another result that we didn't have -

(2)Matwe Middelkoop (NED) d. Tom Rushby (GBR) 6-4 6-3

Doubles first round -

Matthew Lott/Gary Thomson (GBR) d. Graeme Dyce/Ross Murdoch (GBR) 6-3 6-0

Singles second round -

Matthew Smith [753] vs. Daniel Cox [1149]
Adrian Mannarino (FRA) [462] vs. David Rice [Unr]
Andrew Coelho (AUS) [412] vs. Graeme Dyce [Unr]

Doubles second round -

(1)Thiemo de Bakker/Pierre-Ludovic Duclos (NED/CAN) vs. Edward Allinson/Jamie Feaver (GBR)
(3)Ian Flanagan/Tom Rushby (GBR) vs. Daniel Evans/David Rice (GBR) bye
Matthew Lott/Gary Thomson (GBR) vs. (4)Andrew Coelho/Brydan Klein (AUS) bye
Daniel Cox/Joshua Goodall (GBR) vs. (2)Olivier Charroin/Ludwig Pellerin (FRA)

My belief is that Cox and Smith know each other's game well. They played twice in the autumn of 2005 (Smith winning both times, of course) and then together played in India.

Mannarino is just 18 but has a career high of 422, so that shows how good he is. Rice will need to be at his best to do anything of note. cry.gif

Coelho isn't much of a clay player, but then this surface is hardly clay! Hopefully there will be loads of people shouting for Dyce and he will pull off a shock win.
