Shame to see Elena outclassed like that but I keep forgetting they're playing on clay! (How is the surface decided in Fed cup?)

I dunno how the surface has been decided...ITF just seem to put it automatically on clay in Bulgaria every year furious.gif

No. Bulgaria was the only country which wanted to host it.

Bulgaria will be the one to get relegated to Europe/Africa Zone Group II. We'll be where we are.

I agree with you there, Stoop will improve a lot and Naomi will be much more matured as a player.

Presumably that means it won't be in Bulgaria next year!

Paszek is hardly modelling material. confused.gif

And Paszek definitely has a lot of power. Nowhere near top 5 players now, but give her till the end of the year and she'll get there. I personally think that she can beat top 10 players when she's having a good day, but I can't prove it till she does. hmm.gif

true...I somehow got her mixed up with a pic of Julia Goerges which was on my computer at that time

But Arks, these statements are ridiculous, she's nowhere near beating top 20 players regularly at the moment and she will be nowhere near beating top 10 players by the end of the year....I can't see her beating any of those girls atm, she needs to get a lot fitter and develop more nous in her game.

Look at the stats: she had a great win over Srebotnik in Dubai which was v impressive as Srebotnik's ranked 21 and she also hammered Bremond (no 37) at the Aussie Open, but against Zvonereva and Li who are just inside top 20 she got hammered. I think she will beat top 10 players in the future, obviously but it will take a while to develop her game enough to beat players at that level ...there's a huge gulf between the top 16-20 and players ranked 25-50....I do think Paszek will be top 30 by the end of the year

Hopefully smile.gif But I doubt it cry.gif I dunno why we didn't apply this year...it's been in Bulgaria for the last few years, ever since I started following the GB Fed Cup team...would be surprised if it isn't the same next year cry.gif

We badly need some kind country to come along and get it off the clay !

I hope that it'll be Cavaday and Stoop next year, that could be a problem though if it's still on clay because that's by far Stoop's worst surface

Of course she won't do it every single match - she turned 16 just last December.

I don't know about a ranking because she won't play much more this year, but get ready for some great scalps in the next few months.

Don't think that Bulgaria will host it as they got the chop.

why did Bulgaria get the chop ?

How can she do it this year if she's not going to play many more WTAs and quite a bit to defend in the autumn

No they didn't, and they can still host it even if they do get relegated.
