Clay-court season to be more open this year ?

Who do you think the players in the mix for this year's clay-court season will be ?

Last year it was mainly just Federer and Nadal, Robredo managed to sneak Hamburg as both were too exhausted from Rome to compete.

However, signs are that the tourneys this year will be a lot more open.  Will Murray surprise a few of the leading names...will Djokovic be able to take his successful hard-court form to the dirt ?

The Undertaker and Nalbandian have been very disappointing so far this year, could be burn-out or maybe players are just starting to work them out. Both have had some of their best results on European clay, maybe it will signal a return to form for them ?

Will any of the other leading young guns step up to the plate like Djok and Muzza...Gasquet maybe ?   Berdych has been disappointing this year and I don't think his results will improve on the clay....Monfils may string a few more wins together though

Juan Martin Del Potro.

I expect that he'll be inside the top 35 by the time Wimbledon starts.

JDMP for sure will do well but what about the other South American clay courters...Chela, Almagro, Jose Acasuso, Agustin Calleri ? all ranked in the top 50 !

Luis Horna will have a good clay court season. I think Andy will upset a couple of people. If he could get inside the top 8 before Roland Garros and then perform up to his seeding, it will have been a superb few months.

Nalbandian is definitely capable. Had the Fed on the ropes in the semis last year. If he brings his true form, he'd have a chance.

Agree that Canas is the one to watch. Would love to see Fed v Canas on clay in the next few weeks. Who does everyone think will win? Would Fed be able to get his revenge on a surface that suits him even less?

Canas will probably continue to impress.

Chela will do well imo.

I also think Tigger Tim will have one of his best clay court seasons ever!

JMDP. One of my top picks :*)

Even though he does say Hard Courts is his preferred surface. Canas too ofc, could see him getting pretty far into the draw at RG this year.

It's a bit strange. With Tim's style of play he prefers fast courts with low bounce. Althogh he hasn't won any event on clay, his results on this surface are "sometimes" very good. Especially French Open semi in 2004 or Monte Carlo few years ago. What do you think about his run in Paris? Can he repeat it?

Semis again? I think that there are too many good clay courters this time for him to go that far. Last eight is definitely possible.
