Well, Djokovic started the year ahead of Andy but finished ahead of him, made the last eight of a Slam unlike Andy and won two titles (compared to Andy's one title).
I know...what is that all about ? Ok Nole went from 66 to 10 and AM 41 to 12 in the last 12 months but Andy has beaten more top ten players and plays them more often than Nole does....he is a great player but Andy has improved more !
Personally I'm against giving it to young talents. I mean, Djokovic or Andy haven't improved in that sense. They always had the talent and merely came of age.
Give it to someone who had actually shown talents that were previously unspotted. It should have gone to Vliegen or Gicquel.
If the definition was what it looks like, then giving to Nole was fair - though it must have been a close call not to give it to the only other guy to beat Federer last year.
But I agree that neither of them are "new" in the sense that they'd previously been unheard of.
