Wembley Stadium

Went to the new Wembley for the under 21 match today. All I can say is what an incredible venue. The seats are just awesome. You can sit down and stretch out your legs. More leg room that I've ever experienced at any event.

We parked at Stanmore station and got the tube into wembley park As soon as we got there at about 1115, wembley way was just packed. Everyone stopping to take photos of themselves in front of the arch etc. Awesome sight as you approach with the arch dominating your view.

We were at entrance A which was all the way round the other side. Seemed like a 3 mile walk to get there. Upon entrance, there is an escalator in front of you. Then another one. Then another. You eventually reach the top to presented with the entrances to the actual ground. We were in entrace 535! Just gives you an idea of the scale of things.

We were 2 rows from the back of the whole stand. Had to stop for breath on the way up there lol, it is a very steep climb. Unlike the old wembley, there is no obstructed view seats. Everyone has a perfect view. The game was a cracker too.

Think there was a few teething problems with the catering but apart from that things went pretty smoothly from what I saw.

There is no parking facilities at the new ground, so at the end of the game the vast majority of fans headed back down wembley way to the tube station. As you get half way down the street, you grind to a halt as a queue of about 10,000 people is in front of you lol.

I thought, oh no here we go. Mass chaos and anarchy and a very long wait. Incredibly, we were on a tube train and on our way to stanmore within 20 minutes of the game finishing. Very efficeint, about 100 trains an hour leaving the various tube stations after a match apparently. The police did a great job of organising people and getting them on trains as quick as possible (first time i've ever said that at a football match!)

All in all, the new wembley is quite simply an amazing experience (unlike watching the england team play) and we have a new national stadium that everyone can be proud of. When it is full, it will simply be AWESOME. I plan to go to the NFL game that is going to be held there. Should be amazing. The acoustics are great too. Wasn't many chants going up today but those that did reverberated incredibly well. Once a full house is singing, the atmosphere will just be unrivalled in the whole world.
