Absolutely amazing stuff from Georgie, 2nd 25K final and this one's a much stronger field. That's her first win over a top 150 player (and her 4th win over a top 200 player), should give her a lot of confidence as she now knows she can compete with and beat that level of player.
To show how good a win it is....Tamaela has made two 25K finals abd 2 semis this year and the final qualies round of the Aussie Open. She's also absolutely hammered Katie O'Brien and Amanda Keen.
Guaranteed to be up to about 250 now in the rankings, should get a SE into Putignano next week aswell.
Her final opponent is Argentina's Maria-Emilia Salerni who's currently ranked 317 but has been as high as 95 (March 2002). Salerni reached the semis in Tenerife last week and has continued that form in La Palmas, defeating the 3rd seed 6-4, 7-6 in rd1 and then grinding down the young German Tatiana Priachin 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in rd2. In the semis, she defeated Margit Ruutel 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 in a really close match which could have gone either way. Georgie has never played Salerni before but Natasha Khan came close to defeating her in Tipton earlier this year, losing 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Still an absolutely fantastic week for Georgie, beating her first top 150 player and making the final of a strong 25K is a big leap forwards for her. On the verge of the top 250 now.
Well she was down to play 2 clasy 25ks in Italy next week and the week after but she seems have withdrawn. Maybe she'll come back to the UK for training on clay then hed off and the edn of the month for a few events. Wonder if she'll go to the 2 japanese 50ks in april/may?
The current ITF entry lists go until 23rd April and Georgie isn't down for any tournaments. Is it just me or does it seem a little bizarre to make a 25K final and then take 3 weeks off when you're in the form of your life, aiming to make top 200 by Wimbledon and her tournament schedule hasn't been exactly heavy so far this year - she's played something like 7 events.
Maybe she's going for some WTA qualies ?? I have no idea of the cuts, would she miss them by miles ?

You make your schedule a bit more in advance then that i would have thought. She's played quite a bit this year, and is also supposedly going to be allocated a coach in April so it makes sense to have a training block now with the new coach. There's only one WTA event between now and the latest week of Entry Lists on the ITF site and that's Charleston which she definitely won't be playing. We'll probably get a good idea of what she's going to play either this week or next week.
