DC Squad Announced

I agree with Guy, at the moment Aucks has to be left out...it'd be silly to name two doubles specialists who've not played with each other and don't think it's a good idea to do so as they play on the same side and neither is willing to change. They may have told Drew at the Aberdeen Cup that they were going to team up with patriotic spirit high but a few weeks later, they'd decided to find different partners for the 2007 season.

Even if they were a well established team, it'd be tough for Lloyd to pick them both atm because they'd both be Davis Cup rookies, he doesn't know yet how they're going to cope in that environment (they might freeze and have a shocker like Delgado had in Ukraine) and they wouldn't be a shoo-in to win the rubber like the Bryans. If they were a well established team then I'm sure that Lloyd probably would pick them both next year or the year after as they rose higher up the rankings... the danger is what happens if Murray or Henman get injured as has been stated....Aucks would probably be the one to replace him and he's a decent singles player, had that win over Moodie in September and on his day could probably beat the likes of Sluiter or Haase indoors but he's not been able to produce his best consistently particularly in challengers which is why he's not been higher than 280ish.

I agree with Drew that Aucks has been treated badly. Bates was wrong to take the hard-line approach when he decided to miss the Israel tie due to his wedding, if that had been Andy or Tim things would have been completely different. Lloyd should have picked Aucks for the Ukraine tie instead of Lloyd's mate Delgado, for a start Andy and Aucks had played together several times already in 2006 with a reasonable amount of success plus they'd won a match on clay (Roland Garros rd1).

To get in the squad Aucks has to become British no 1 again to give himself a chance. Even if he does, my gut feeling is that Lloyd still might not pick him because he's a bit biased towards Jamie Murray....even when Aucks was British no 1, Lloyd was describing Jamie as Britain's top doubles player and the person in line for the doubles place, the fact that Aucks had won a match at the Aussie Open and made an ATP final in Delray Beach didn't seem to register.....of course after Jamie amazing 3 titles in February and making the quarters of IW, he thoroughly deserves to be in the squad

Its a bit like football players who don't make the England team because they don't play for Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal. i.e. Nolan, Barton, Barry.

Aucks's names isn't Murray unfortunately for him.

Good point. But the two that do - Walcott and Hoyte both have international recognition

At least they're better than a few years ago when they might as well have been competing in the French league.

I think both Murray and Henman should play only their single matches. They will be fresh and 3 points are very realistic. Hopefully Lloyd won't make some extra combinations.

Hmmm, just been thinking. Bloomers would be a seed at the tallahasse challenger (and also valencia i think).

now if he pulls out for DC i think he could be in for a hefty fine. i wonder if he is aware of this?

Ii have spoken to boggo on this b4 and he told me that seeded players in challengers who pull out at the last minuite can face fines of a few grand!

Surely they wouldn't fine someone for being in a DC squad? Bearing in mind that the teams only have to be announced a couple of weeks or so before the tie, it would seem very unfair. This would not only be a problem for the Brits, but for all DC teams.

If you are named in DC squad you do not get a fine - however I would prefer to see Bloomers palying the Challengers

He'd be better off in the Challengers as you say. But Lloyd would see that as treason

bit of good practice here, indoors, whould leave him ready for cardiff tho.

its a shame to miss 2 events for it tho, Rich would surely think he can get deep in at least one, if not both, of the american challengers.
