Hope Emily WS is OK. Really important victory for Jade there-another ranking point heading her back up in the right direction. Annabel B impressive again in use of the WC.
Webley-Smith 6-7, 2-3 Doutrelant: "Just a minor niggle for Emily. I think the scoreline reflects the match it was quite close but Emily didn't play well enough to really trouble the French girl. Doutrelant is a very big hitter and on fast indoor courts she's tough to play."
A Bann 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 N Broady: "It was a tight match and the main reason for this was Naomi's serve, she served extremely well and that would have won her a lot of matches at this level. Annabel Bann played a very astute match, moving Naomi around a lot and being very accurate with her shots. The accuracy of Annabel's hitting was what won her the match. Annabel is a tough match-up for Naomi because she moves her around so much and that's Naomi's weakness. Naomi needs to work on her movement and the way she sets herself up for the ball."
Looking ahead to Bann-O'Donoghue in rd2: "Jane's been playing very well recently having won a title and reached a semi at this level. I'd say she's the favourite for this match as she's more aggressive than Annabel and moves better."
V Wellauer 6-0, 6-7, 6-2 S Cornish: "I thought she did well to get back in the match and win the 2nd set. However, in order to win these sort of matches Stephanie needs to play more aggressively. She was too passive in terms of her movement and her ball-striking and instead of retrieving all the time she needs to try and put more pressure on her opponent. However, it's a learning curve for her, she still has school commitments and once those finish this summer, I expect we'll see some big improvements from her."
J Bone 6-3, 6-1 K Ruckert: "Julia is very consistent in 10Ks, she wins matches most weeks at this level. She's very solid in getting the wins week in, week out."
O Scarfi 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 A Elliott : "The match was very competitive and in the end it was Scarfi's determination which saw her through. Amanda had a lot of chances, she actually led 3-1 in the 3rd set but then lost a very long game and that proved to be the turning point, that was her chance."
J Curtis 6-4, 7-6(11) C Molina: "Jade played very well today, was very impressive. She played aggressively and very smart for most of the match. Regarding her chances tomorrow against the 3rd seed, the fields in 10Ks are very even, somebody with talent and application will have a chance against anyone at this level."
Still, this was Annabel's third ranking tournament, and she will come in at c. 1150-1200 in ten days time. And losing with one break per set is very creditable, given Jane's experience and ability.
Jade C lost 6-1 6-0 to Pauline Wong, number 2 seed. Not quite there yet with top 500 players. Jade's ranking point will put her back around 1200 in rankings.
Julia Bone plays Jane O'D in the QF, so we will have a SF place.
Jane is having an amazing year. I am so excited about her as some were writing her off last year....long may it continue she has always had the talent....I know you should pull for the younger ones but I hope it is Jane in the Semis....
Congrats to Annabel for gaining her first world ranking Lots of the LTA coaches talk about Annabel being very experienced but she's only 17, very good prospect. I agree with Mervatron she should shoot up the rankings, maybe even top 600 if she has a few more good runs like in Jersey. Her biggest weapon is her backhand and she's also excellent tactically, causes opponents a lot of problems with her court-craft. She needs to work on her movement (that's the main weakness) and being a bit more aggressive.
Jane will beat her at the moment because shes goes for her shots more and has the power to outhit Annabel and get her on the move.
Fantastic win for Julia Bone, good to see her building on that excellent rd1 result. Haberkorn beat her 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 a few weeks ago in Jersey so it's good to see Julia getting revenge in such emphatic style. Haberkorn goes for her shots a lot more but does make a good deal of errors, I guess Julia outdid her for consistency today. Julia also needs to work on her movement and being more aggressive, she has a good forehand but needs to back herself more on that shot and go for it...tends to play a bit too passively at times, just exchanging heavy topspins from the back.
To be fair to Jade, Wong's in excellent form atm, she qualified and reached the quarters of a 25K in Feb and made the semis of a 10K a couple of weeks ago. However, it shouldn't have been 1 and 0 given the way Jade played yesterday. Maybe Jade played the rankings a bit in this match ?

Yeah I'm really pleased to see it I was one of those guilty of writing her off last year Looks like she's on her way back to the top 300 which is great.
I think Jane will beat Julia, she's got the bigger serve and can outhit her from the back
