Delic still looking impregnable on serve. Had a chance for a double break 2 games ago, double fault from Davydenko and a backhand return down the line gave Delic 15-30 but Davydenko came back
Currently 7-6, *4-3 to Delic
I think he can easily be top 50, he's got a good game for most surfaces with that serve and his volleying skills. If he develops his forehand and/or backhand into bigger weapons (and they have the potential to be great shots) then top 32 is surely within his reach
Several more shock results yesterday, Canas took out Gasquet ! With him beating Ferrero and Gasquet it makes Henman getting a set seem like a very good performance !
Ljubicic fought back to eventually beat Santoro 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. I saw the final two sets live last night, Ljubicic was ultimately able to outhit Santoro, he had to up his level and be more aggressive in the final two sets - came into the net a lot more than usual to finish off points and started taking the ball on more especially on his backhand, he hit some stunning winners. Santoro produced the full package of slices, drop shots, lobs, crafty angles, big serves etc, some of his defensive play was amazing. Ljubicic was a break up 3 times (I think ?) in the final set and Santoro just kept fighting back though Ljubicic was at fault for some sloppy play, double faults at crucial moments - he lost his serve from 40-0 up. He missed some pretty easy volleys though that was probably down to knowing that he had to hit a really quality shot otherwise Santoro would come up with something out of the blue.
Chela beat Berdych 6-4, 7-6(6). To be honest it's a match which Berdych should have won in straights, he was serving well but just too inconsistent from the back, the normally reliable backhand letting him down. It's that inconsistency which has meant it's only a fairly average start to 2007 for him. Must be frustrating for his coach as on his day, he's a threat to all the top guys.
I don't think Canas will beat Fed twice in a row. Regretfully, I would have to back Ljubicic and Djokovic (regretfully as they are needed to lose for the sake of Andy's ranking). I would toss a coin for the other.
Same here, I think Fed will hand out a straight sets drubbing this time. I'd back Robredo to beat Stepanek, his consistency and passing ability will see him through
Not really, I can't see Mathieu beating Andy...plus we already have a thread for that match
Wow what a result !!!! I really wanted to watch the match but unfortunately star sports only show ATP tennis () and the windows media stream links wouldn't work
Did anyone see it ?
Sharapova really seems to be unable to handle the power of the Williams at their best, she doesn't have the variety in her game to change things up and try to upset their rhythm, just gets caught in a slugging match which she's going to lose if the sisters are playing well.
Venus would have beaten her in rd3 if she'd had a few more matches under her belt.
Bad news for bt.net predictors is that Robredo won the first set on a breaker against Count Duckula...Duckula was a bit flashy, very erratic in the early stages and then strung some good stuff together and almost came back from 5-3 to nick it but his inconsistency cost him the tiebreak.
