Steven, Mad, Bethan, Arka, Guy (and any other rankings Gurus out there!) could you have a look at Bjorkman's ranking points: http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/playerprofiles/pointsbreakdown.asp?player=B446
and let me know if you can work out why he's been given 803, rather than 804: Looks like a Rotterdam 0 is included instead of a Rome Qualies 1.
The ATP has a new rule from this year. If a player withdraws from more than one event after he is placed in the draw, he will be fined with a zero pointer.
Bjorkman is the first victim of this.
From the ATP Rule Book:
Once a player is accepted in the Main Draw of one of these thirteen Tournaments, as a Direct Acceptance, a Qualifier, a Special Exempt or a Lucky Loser, or having accepted a Wild Card, his result in this Tournament shall count for his ranking, whether or not he participates. A player's second (2nd) withdrawal from an International Series (ISG/IS) Event shall result in a zero (0) point included as one of his best of five (5) results. Further non-consecutive withdrawals shall result in a zero (0) point allocation replacing the next best positive result for each additional withdrawal. Players with multiple consecutive withdrawals who are out of competition for 30 days or longer due to injury will not be subject to a ranking penalty as long as verified and approved medical forms are provided; or, a player shall not have the ranking penalty imposed if he completes the Promotional Activities requirement as specified under "Repeal of Fines".
The new table is posted here (on Britishtennis.net) Canas and Gabashvilli qualify; Korolev is knocked out.
In Miami tomorrow, Lee plays Vassallo Arguello, and overtakes Tim if he wins. Threat number 2, Vliegen plays Mathieu; threat number 4, Mirnyi plays Bracciali. Target number 3, Monfils plays Bolelli.
So get the pins out of storahe and into Hyung-Taik
The updated table is posted here (on Britishtennis.net) Lee, Vliegen, Mirnyi, Massu and Koubek are knocked out behind Tim Monfils is knocked out ahead Monaco, Del Potro, Serra, Gabashvili and Johansson advance
Today, let's hope Tim can take advantage of Monfils going out and cause an upset by beating number 3 threat Canas. If he does, he can overtake Gicquel, as long as he loses to Korolev.
Also in Miami, number 1 threat, Clementplays Montanes, number 2 target Ginepri plays Spadea.
So today's hexes curses and voodoo pins are into Canas(big rusty ones!!), Clement, Gicquel and Ginepri!
